Courtney Love To Replace Abdul On 'Idol'?

POSTED: 10:50 am EST January 31, 2007
UPDATED: 1:45 pm EST January 31, 2007

Singer Courtney Love says she has been asked if she would be interested in sitting in as a judge on "American Idol."

Love told Usmagazine.com that the executive producer of the show, Nigel Lythgoe, called her office last week to ask whether she was interested in appearing on the show. Love said she thought the idea was "weird, but brilliant."

Love declined to talk further about the proposal, but Usmagazine.com quotes a source who said Lythgoe is considering replacing Paula Abdul with Love.

Abdul has received a great deal of criticism this season, following several satellite TV interview appearances in which she appeared to be intoxicated. A statement from Abdul said her appearance during the interviews was the result of exhaustion and technical difficulties with the audio feed during the interviews.

Love is currently prepping the release of her second solo album, titled "How Dirty Girls Get Clean." She began recording the project in 2005, following the completion of a court-ordered drug rehabilitation stint.

at least courtney will be entertaining when she's sober...and even MORE entertaining when she's blotto. i hope she doesn't join the show because it means i'd be forced to watch it, because i love her crazy ass.

lazy. as. reporting.

note that love never said she was asked to be a permanent judge. she could easily have been asked to be a guest judge.

now watch all the lazy "news" online sites like imdb report this crap as news and then it will work its way up to the mainstream media and the big networks...then you will see a press release from AI denying it all...

silly!

No one ever said that they were "replacing" abdul either. Pure speculation.

this show is so done at this point, i may have ratings but its not really turning out anyone that is going to have a career, its becoming the one-hit one-album wonder show. Its basically the Gong-show at this point, 99% of the people there do not have any business even getting close to a record contract.

I dunno. I have always appreciated the Anna Nicole Train Wreck. Is Courtney better than that?

Besides isn't she sober now. That won't be any fun to watch. Not like I'd watch AI anyway.

isnt that scruffy ambiguously ethnic guy daugherty in the charts? and the country chick too? wasnt her album like the biggest of last year? i think last year america was crazy for voting for Richard Gere's stand-in but i dont think its ability to generate stars is over...yet.

It's strange who has made it since and who hasn't. I think the only ones to really have a career after are Kelly (though it took her a few years to prove herself), Clay and not Chris. I don't even think chris made it to the final round. Oh and Jennifer Hudson is now a star.

Yes, and Kelly Clarkson, their most successful ulum . It seems AI is about 50/50 in producing successful acts after their Idol run.

I love Courtney, but... let's face it. Is she *really* someone who should be judging other singers? I mean, Paula isn't exactly Whitney Houston herself, but still.....

Stars? to me one album doesnt impress me, Carrie and Kelly need to still be here 10-15 years from now and talk about being a star. All Idol is doing is created a HYPE for a few months, to me what i have seen come off of that show, as far as someone that could appeal to everyone and cross over to different markets with music would be Katharine Mcphee, she comes off as someone that could be in the Mariah Carey class. The rest seem to be "contained" to one genre and dont really have a long-term appeal, the Hicks guy to me seems like a joke that he won and i dont even watch this show, i saw a few clips and heard it was between Katharine Mcphee and Taylor Hicks, so i figured, alright she won cause she is a singer and he's an impersonator. For Carrie Underwood, the safest thing she can do is still try to be Faith Hill, country/pop, very safe and people like that stuff, as for Kelly Clarkson, i hear raves about this girl and i just dont see it, i think its mainly because the music she is doing is very boring, its that formula low beginning building to the bridge and the loud angry chorus, its so overused at this point.

well, they might not be stars to you and i but they are to a legion of teens. and by all means i dont like any of them but i can still respect their commercial successes...

and ya can't use a longevity argument when the show hasn't even been around for ten to fifteen years...i guess only time will tell.

with all that being said, i think your spot on when it comes to the individuals and their weaknesses.

Agreed. Most people probably just watch it to see the fools who can't sing, Make complete morons out of themselves. As for Paula being replaced, I'll believe it when it actually happens. For the last 4 years there have been rumors about her getting canned and she's still here.

i think of courtney as anna nicole with wit. moreso, i think of courtney as the gen-x tallulah bankhead. she's a complete mess, but every so often she mouths off with some quote that's absolutely witty and hiLARious.

I think Courtney and the reporter are blowing that up and they wanted her to sit in one week. I can't imagine the mind that thinks "Paula Abdual is acting irradically and America isn't in love with her anymore....Let's replace her with...Courtney Love!". Courtney would be brutally honest and probably funny as hell. It would be great if they could get a female judge who was honest and didn't give a fuck!
