This really is the first time I see Aretha crying like that.

This song has so many layers of meaning. It probably reminded Re of all the loved ones she'd lost: mom, dad, Carolyn, Erma, Cecil...

Seeing Aretha tear up was really touching but when I watched Natalie's performances I kept thinking of Harlepolis' posts about Natalie and Aretha.

I want to see the Chaka Khan and Smokey Robinson clips,,,hope Youtube upload 'em.

Speaking of Natalie, I stumbled across a pretty good interview with her by Tavis Smiley on iTunes.

It looked like she was ready to cry for Stevie, too, but it didn't happen.

What did you think of his performance? It sounded like he used a vocoder or auto pitch or some processor on his voice? And all over the place at the beginning. Sounded great by the end, though

Funny someone on the radio said the same thing about Stevie and some of the other artists. They thought they were using ProTools but it needed to be corrected. I noticed a slight flatness with Chaka Khan that sounded what I termed as mechanical.

I thought ProTools was only used during recordings. Is it common to use it for live performances without the artist's knowledge?

Stevie's performance and Chaka's first performance (she recovered a bit with Dr. Feelgood) were vocally shaky.

Not sure if they couldn't hear themselves/the band or what.

In a way i can understand why it was a commercial flop, it`s different from the other albums she recorded in the 70s, so i people were expecting something completely different than the songs she chose for the album.

It turned out to be a VERY good album, and i think most her fans would agree...




I hope someone puts Natalie Cole`s performances on youtube, that`s what i`m most curious about. Did she sing just "Day dreaming"?

I'd really like to hear that record again. I only listened to it once. My parents had it. I remember liking the first track a lot, it was much more adventurous than anything I'd ever heard from Aretha.

The album cover has lots of drug references on it. Very 70's.
