NAMM 2007

Again, being stuck doing product demos didn't allow for much time for show strolls.
Some sites for recaps:
NAMM
Inside Home Recording
Harmony Central
Mix Magazine

Although I didn't see much product...

...I did have a good vantage point for other things. whistling

Bootsy Collins made an appearance at the Sales Meeting...

...Most impressive.

Bootsy also did a signing stop on Saturday...

...Everybody loves Bootsy.

A few of the folks that stopped to see what all the fuss was about...

...Idris Elba (popularly know as Russell "Stringer" Bell from the HBO series The Wire), Patti's assistant (i've gone blank on his name redface ), Frankie "Kash" Waddy (drummer - P-Funk, Bootsy, JBs, Sly), some dude.

Another element of the NAMM experience are the after-show performances.

Doug Wimbish's WIMBASH...

...(thanks to a pass scored by PFunkJazz)

...Doug

...Bernie Worrell

...Leo Nocentelli

...Leo & T.M. Stevens

...Freekbass & accompanying dance troupe.

The lobby of the Anaheim Hilton where...

...Bernard Purdie (drums) was playing with Steve Bailey (bass) and Lee Oskar (harp).

One event I really regret missing occurred on the first day of the show...

...A tribute to Harold Rhodes (inventor of the Rhodes keyboard).

Featuring...

...George Duke, Jeff Lorber and David Benoit performing on the new Rhodes keyboard.

David Benoit must have been a last minute replacement...

...as all the advance lit listed Patrice Rushen and the 3rd player.

...legendary guitarist Phil Upchurch and his lovely wife Sonya.

...Eric Krasno (guitarist w/Soulive on the right)

...Big Johnny Hiland layin' it down.

...guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter & Andras Simonyi (Ambassador of Hungary and avid guitarist)

Some folks that I got a visit from or met:
Johnny "Juice" Rosado
Bernie Worrell
Will Lee
Hiram Bullock
John Blackwell
Morris Hayes
Richie Kotzen
Sinbad

Random Sightings:
Stevie Wonder
The Twinz
Alan Parsons

...Ike Turner in the Hilton lobby.

There were acoustic performances throughout each day at the Sennheiser booth.
2 performers that stood out were...

...Debby Holiday (www.DebbyHoliday.com) and a gentleman named Brett Cain.

What had to be the highlight of the show for me was looking to my left and seeing...

...Todd Rundgren standing beside me.

Told him I was a fan since the days of Nazz.
He was very gracious when I asked for the pic and mentioned...

...that he'd be appearing with the Tony Levin Band that night.

Miscellaneous pics...

...Paul Stanley (without makeup), Steve Morse & Ronnie James Dio, Steve Vai.

That's it till Summer. I need a vacation.

There were a few off-site gigs that I didn't attend as there was quite a bit happening within walking distance.

Soulive - Knitting Factory in Hollyweird

Ibanez Jem 20th Anniversary Party (Steve Vai, Joe Satriani) - The Key Club in Hollyweird

PRS Guitars James Brown Memorial Concert (James Brown Band) - The Grove in Anaheim
They also had a guitarathon type segment that featured a reformed Cactus!!! eek

Closing out on Sunday night over at Safari Sams (LAX?) was the BX3 gig with Jeff Berlin, Stuart Hamm and Billy Sheehan. They're featured on the latest BASS PLAYER. If I had read the issue as soon as I got it I woulda known about their shows. I think they played Thursday afternoon over at the Lennon bus exhibit. Oh yeah, I kept running into Gerald Veasley.

I heard about that Cactus gig but didn't get word of a JAMES BROWN BAND jam. Word was Warren Haynes sat in (on Cactus)

You almost have to hire a "logistics expert" to help you catch all the shindigs.

I caught Paul Reed Smith jamming with Johnny Hiland at the All-Star Guitar Night.
Things were going well until JH blew his amp up (for the 2nd time according to him). cooked
