Good lookin' out! I forgot about that record and that it wasn't so bad. N. M. Walden was making great music back then and I always kinda liked this song. Eddie's vocals, especially his falsetto, was respectable.
But Johnny Gill on the guitar...

"Put ya mouth, not ya teeth, PUT YA MOUTH!"
I forgot that Johnny Gill was in that video! In hindsight, that can be called foreshadowing ... Any way, I always thought that "Put Your Mouth on Me" was too silly to be taken seriously. In fact, I felt that was the intent of the song -- Eddie Murphy being silly. [Edited 1/30/07 18:01pm] THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

There's a link on this one to "Twins" by Philip Bailey and LIttle Richard - it has to be the WORST video of all time, heh.
From that epic film "Twins" starring The Gov and Danny DeVito. Classic.

He said he tried to be serious on how could it be but people did not want to accept him being serious. He said it was like people was waiting for him to fart on the record so he put out a fun record in put your mouth on me. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

I agree. I believe some people took "Put Your Mouth on Me" a little more seriously than Eddie Murphy intended it to be. I doubt it I don't think anybody took Eddie's WHOLE singing career more seriously than him he REALLY believed that he could sing He was so offended when a reporter made a comment about him being a "being a better actor than a singer", he stopped the camera crew and told her to the get hell outta there. I love Eddie Murphy, but living on Pluto must've taken its toll on the brotha.

This song screams MJ and he's trying to be sexy like prince in the vid.
lol maybe he should have just written songs for people instead of trying to sing them. He really doesnt ooze musician. "Nobody makes me bleed my own blood...NOBODY!"
