Two years ago, a 16 year old kid ran in front of my car and I hit him so I beg to differ that all accidents can be avoided...well, other than if he hadn't ran in front of my car in the first place. shrug

I would love to see the bulk of the sympathy on this thread for the victim because my gut tells me, if it were the other way around, some would be talking about the asshole that killed Brandy.

that's my point. the accident could have been avoided if the kid hadn't darted out into the street. He didn't stand there intentionally to be hit but his carelessness caused the accident. ACCIDENT. I feel terrible for this poor woman's child who will now have to grow up without a mom but would people be calling out for Brandy's blood if the woman had lived? or been only slightly injured?
Dang, I thought I had lost that post. confuse

Anywho, I am not calling for Brandy's blood because we all know she ain't going to jail anyway.

If it were your family member she caused the death of, would you be as understanding? If it had been a celebrity that we all love killed, we'd be calling the driver all kinds of assholes. I don't feel any sympathy for Brandy just as I wouldn't feel any sympathy for any Joe Blow on the street that this could have happened to.

I feel bad about the whole thing. I'm a fan of brandy's so I feel for her but it's important to be careful on the roads too, but I don't think she deserves to be charged, maybe just pay a fine for damages

sure enough I am a human being. when people do things that are stupid and affect me in a direct way, hell yeah i'd be ready to bleed a mofo to death. But... that is what the judicial system is supposed to be for, to be objective and fair and not deal solely from an emotional viewpoint.

you seriously can't feel sorry for someone who was in an honest accident? god forbid what if it happened to you or someone you know?
It will never happen to me because I do not speed AND I drive safely and do not follow cars at an unsafe distance. Honest accident implies it could not be avoided.

If it had been you or a loved one Brandy hit, would you still have sympathy for her?
[Edited 1/30/07 18:05pm]

if it happened to me or a loved one i'm sure i'd feel different about it. it's just an unfortunate situation all around.

Well, we all know that the judicial system will not deal with this fairly. I guess my feeling s about the whole subject would be different if I knew how the victim's family felt about Brandy.

shocked Somebody is mad at her!!! I'm actually on the family's side...but 50 million??? I believe the family should receive some monetary compensation..but I have a problem with people sueing other people for
everything they have when the crime against them was not intentional!! Yes, Brandy was negligent..but where is she going to get the 50 million? I've tried to place myself mentally in the family's situation but going for the
jugular vein of the defendant is not going to bring their loved one back.
I would squeeze out a few mill from her to help with the pain!! nod

I don`t think that makes the family look good at all, it just looks like they`re trying to cash in on this.

the bottom line is that this is a very terrible situation. whether Brandy was famous or not, it would still be terrible on both sides, the victim and the accused.

I feel bad but I don't. She is being sued for money she proably doesn't have. But she was DRIVING SELFISHLY. I swear I HATE people who drive like that. Weaving in and out of traffic, speeding, cutting people off LIKE THEY ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT HAVE SOMEWHERE TO GO. I hate them, I tell ya, just hate them.

But what about the people who make it a point to get in the fast lane and drive slow, isn't that driving selfishly too? If people who prefer to drive slower would stay in the right lane, there would be a lot less lane changing.

I feel bad for her. Fender benders happen all the time - this one just happened to set of a chain reaction of events that ultimately led to someone else's death, so she's inevitably going to be held accountable for it all.

Too many times I've glanced in my rear view mirror for a second only to find out the car in front of me unexpectedly slammed on the brakes for no good reason, and I've almost rear ended them.

I know they always say to drive an "assured clear distance" from the car in front of you, but it seems if you trail too far back behind the car, other drivers seem to take that as an invitation to pass around you and pull into that spot, so you're no longer a safe distance from the car in front of you. Then if that person happens to slam on the brakes, you're screwed.

Yeah, I thought I heard that she wasn't speeding at about 60 or 65. They already checked the phone records and she wasn't on the phone but people are still saying she was probably on the phone. Maybe she could have been scrolling or something, I don't know if records would indicate that. Even still, you can be the safest driver in the world but you can't control what other people do and people do very dumb unsafe things like Tom mentioned.

My ultimate peeve is when someone jumps infront of you knowing there isn’t enough room infront or behind them. You glance in your mirror to change lanes, read a street sign or check if the car behind you is indeed riding your ass and in that second someone else can decide to cut you off or brake. This is especially scary when there are people out there running insurance scams and doing this on purpose, killing people along the way.

I do feel bad for her. I hope that all parties come out ok with this. It's not like she was driving reckless or drunk or high. It was an unfortunate accident. And because she's a celebrity, she'll probably be sued to the hilt.

sad Just saw those accident photos and DAMMNN. That left knots in my stomach. My heart goes out to the family who lost someone, and to Brandy, for the pain she must feel, as a result. There can be no justice in this type of a situation. Nothing can bring back the lost person and nothing can change what happened.

I hope, while the family is rewarded something, I think 50 million is a bit much. However, they probably have been told, to ask high, that way, they start out with a high asking price and can bargain down to what they really would accept. Perhaps. Could be wrong with that.

Yes, I hate that also. Especially people who get on the freeway slow that don't know how to merge. I also hate people who zig through traffic and at the last minute they decide to get off at their exit from the far lane cutting people off. mad

Attorney Recommends Manslaughter Charge for Brandy

The Los Angeles City Attorney is recommending R&B star Brandy is charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter for her part in a December freeway pile-up, which left one woman dead. The singer, full name Brandy Norwood, reportedly failed to see traffic slowing in front of her while driving along the 405 freeway on December 30, and collided with a Toyota in front of her. The collision set off a chain of accidents which left Awatef Aboudihaj - the driver of the car Brandy hit, dead. Brandy recently issued a public apology as a fellow motorist involved in the crash revealed the singer admitted fault at the scene. The R&B star was not arrested, but Los Angeles police officials, who have spent the last month investigating the crash, handed the matter over to prosecutors last week.

Now I know it isn't good at all, but she is a good influence for her fans. She isn't out all night partying like Britney. She isn't showing off her body like a tramp. She wasn't drinking or drugging AT all when this happened. I don't know..I just feel bad for her. I feel like she is one of the last, classy r&b singers left, and maybe I'm offbase cus I haven't followed her career much, but as far as I remeber...I don't know..just my thoughts..
I feel sorry for the family of the person who was killed.
