I need a freak by Sexual Harrassment I just heard a snippet of this track and it sounds hot. I guess it's from the 80's? Anyone know more about them or have this album??

They gotta be one of those one-off 12" single type deals.
Hot song though. I like the original. Too $hort covered this song in 1997.

Hey dancerella,
I don't have that track. But that is a JAM. Alternately, I don't know much about it or the artist, but L.A. urban old school shows play the hell out of it. So I guess it was a big song in black L.A. in the '80s. Kinda like Klymaxx, L.A. Dream Team, Egyptian Lover they came up out of the L.A. electro-funk/techno-rap scene.

Sexual Harrassment's "I Need a Freak" came out in 1983. Ironically, the song sounds very similar to something The Egyptian Lover would have done (NOTE: The Egpytian Lover's classic "Egypt, Egypt" came out in 1984). Ironically, The Egyptian Lover did his own cover of "I Need a Freak" circa 1994. [Edited 1/29/07 18:46pm] THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

Yo! I casually did a Google search for you, and guess what it pulled up? An old thread from 2004 DavidEye started about obscure '80s R&B songs and in the first post he mentions "I Need A Freak" ----> http://www.prince.org/msg/8/76929 Also, yes, do check out LA Dream Team. They have some solid jams. You may have heard "Dream Team Is In The House" (that song even appeared in an old episode of "What's Happenin' Now") or "Rockberry Jam" which was another regional west coast hit. Please check both of those songs out. Also 1982's "Calling On The Dream Team." It's electro funky techno rap that will kill you!

The song "I Need A Freak" is from the fall of 1983.At first,it was an underground hit, popular in the clubs but then R&B radio began playing it.I had the album back then,it consisted of only six songs: I Need A Freak If I Gave You A Party You Are My Sexual Connection K-I-S-S-I-N-G We Didn't Say It Exercise Your Ass Off To me,the album is very Prince-influenced.You can tell these guys were huge Prince fans. The album is filled with double-entendres and X-rated come-ons.The best song is "If I Gave You A Party (Would You Come)",a naughty synth-funk jam that sizzles!!..."Exercise Your Ass Off" is a hilarious little number that pokes fun at the whole Jane Fonda exercise craze..."We Didn't Say It" is an instrumental track."K-I-S-S-I-N-G" is another standout number. This was the second single. In 1985,Sexual Harrassment returned with a 12" single called "We Want Prince",a fitting tribute to the artist that they were most inspired by.

It's a great song. If you are looking for it, it's available on some compilations. Just go to the Tower Records website and search for the song "I Need A Freak". Andy is a four letter word.

Like sooooo many of these rappers do. Hell, they even slowed down "Between The Sheets" and that was already somewhat of a slow song already. Andy is a four letter word.

I have several of his 45s and I don't see Rick's name mentioned on them. He sounds a lot like Prince. My favorites are: She's Just A Groupie Hangin' Out At The Mall Got To Get Up On It Sexy Sassy Private Party If you like Bobby Nunn, check out Ebonee Webb. They sound more like Prince than Prince does. Andy is a four letter word.

Bobby's music is funky and does sound a little new wavish. If you like early Prince before "Purple Rain", you'll like Bobby. Ebonee Webb sounds like a combination of Prince's "Head" and The Time's first album. Andy is a four letter word.

When I heard their song 'Something About You' I thought it was Prince himself and I recently discovered it was Ebonee Webb. I swore it was Prince the first time I heard "Something About You". Then the DJ said it was a new group, Ebonee Webb, produced by Allen Jones of The Barkays. About a week or two later, I heard "Get It Up" by The Time and thought that was Prince also. When they finally played "Controversy" on the radio, I had started wondering, is this really Prince or is this another imposter. Andy is a four letter word.
