Madame X---a very good late-80s R&B album produced by Bernadette Cooper

Who remembers Madame X? A short-lived female trio with an excellent debut album produced by Bernadette Cooper.Released in late 1987,this album was a nice surprise.Contains the hits "Just That Type Of Girl" and my favorite "I Want Your Body".Both songs are reminscent of Vanity 6,imo.There were tentative plans for a second Madame X album in 1988 featruing a few songs written and produced by Teena Marie but alas,it never materialized.Anybody remember this group and their fun, sexy debut album?

After years ( and I do mean years) of searching for this hard to find, out of print gem, a friend hooked me up with a copy. cool I rocked it all weekend. can you please translate wtf she is saying in the following lines from Just that Type of Girl? :

"Champaign, diamond rings, caviar, mingle with the stars(uh)....1st clas ticket and"zizzah bizzeh"" what the hell is "zizzah bizzeh"?

Cherries in the Snow is my fave.

I love "I Want Your Body",that song is WILD!!! lol The best part is the spoken passages by Bernadette....

uncontrollable desire....passion
chills running up and down my spine
Ooh...I'm losing my mind!

Wild...very very very erotic baby
temporary...LAWD!!

I think she means business lol she ends the song by telling her would-be lover: "this better be good" falloff

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this album! love Each and every song is a winner, even "Action Jackson" which is only available on the soundtrack of the same name. If I had to pick one song that I think was vastly underrated, it would be the title track--fantastic ballad.

I was always frustrated by Klymaxx and was so happy to finally see Bernadette get her funk on with this project. Too bad the group didn't last long. Vocalist Alisa Randolph released a solo album afterward with the other girls singing background on a few tracks so it's sort of 'Madame X II'.

The album is very edgy and daring. This wasn't your typical late-80s R&B album.

Yeah,it's a shame that they broke up so soon. This was a cool concept.Bernadette is a GREAT producer,I would have liked to hear more productions from her.

they were all pretty hot. they definitely could give Apollonia 6 and Vanity 6 a run or their money. I wish they would have done a second album.

This has got to be THE best album of the late 1980s. If more people had been making slammin' albums like this one during that era, instead of the adult contemporary pop sounding bullshit they were making, we would still be throwin' down today.

I love "Just That Type Of Girl", "I Wonder", "Marry Me", "I Want Your Body", and "Flirt". Five, not just good songs, but JAMS on one album in the late 1980s....that was rare.

Oh yeah, I still have their performance from Soul Train. Incredible stage presence. Elisa, Iris, and Valerie Victoria (my green eyes are fit to kill). Truly one of the hottest groups of the 80's.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

you have to admit that ladies didn't have the strong vocals as their lead singer had. (except patti labelle) smile the group was the bomb! very much a classic group, classy and ahead of their time. cool

Loved this song and video. I still have the promo on CD. It includes the video, but can't see it because of the technology used then, but never heard the rest of the CD. Was it good?

I know right. I only have the single for Just That Type of Girl. I had to try to find the album this past weekend to hear the whole thing. I hate I missed it back in the day. Now I'm on a mad search.

You'll love it. Next get Alisa Randolph's solo album. It's not as good as Madame X, but there's some good funk on it.
