Why Jill Scott? Why?!?!

The good news: a new 2-CD release arrives Tuesday.

The bad news: it's "collaborations."

Is anyone else disappointed by this? I love the woman and think she can SANG... but even the CD cover looks a little cheesey.

Why Jill? Why?!?!

"A little" cheesy?! Look at it again: that hat is filled with cheese. lol

Now that I think of it, it's clearly an homage to Boy George:

"Don't Take My Mind on a Trip" dancing jig
"Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

wait...is this a covers *and* collaboration album? cause some of them collaborations are with instrumentalist and producers...that i can live with...its not really a "duets" type set.

Eh, this is just an in-your-face version of the "Cross marketing" that would be used to sell the album anyway. shrug

I just saw the list of folks she was performing/collaborating with and assumed it was covers. I'm checking it out now.

I heard that this is just something to hold us over, until her new CD comes out later this year.

All of those are previously released. I have most of that stuff. I guess they wanted to get all her collabs on one/two discs.

You have seen that pic before. Wasn't it a picture inside her last album?

If they want to release her collabos, they should release the studio version of The Roots' "You Got Me" with her singing the hook, to which they ended up using Badu on vocals instead because she was more known at the time.

Will Smith is annoying these days but he does deserve recognition and respect for his Fresh Prince days, and keep in mind he´s from Philly, just like Jill, and he´s doing more and more shows with DJ Jazzy Jeff again, even pondering upon reviving the Fresh Prince persona...that I can live with, it does make sense in a way, you know, the Philly thing, Hilltop , the Plateau, Steady B , Schooly D, the good old days...but WTF is Will I Am doing there ? I hate the Black Eyed Peas with a passion...Will Smith could not be more sellout and annoying than those guys in a 100 years.

Style-wise, yes, she does. But the overwhelming reason as to why they used Badu over Jill was because of the fame factor.

Circuit City is advertising a 2-CD set with 14 songs on the first disc and 23 on the other -- including a couple of videos FOR $11.99! I do remember her doing an awesome performance with Moby and the Blue Man Group on TV a few years back. With the remixes included therein, I may be tempted to give this a go. And, fingers crossed, I will definitely pick-up her other later if she does put-out another release this year. Fingers crossed!
