new Paula Abdul album in the works? was flipping through the dial tonight and came across Rush Rush (((swoon))) and afterward the DJ said she has a new album in the works, but no release date yet.
i've been hearing this for at least 5 years now, so i know better than to get TOO excited. but does anyone know anything about this? and anyone know how much of the last next album with Nile Rogers she got done before she got cut from Mercury when Universal sucked it up?

It would be interesting indeed...I think her star has regained some of its shine with all of this American Idol bullcrap, so now may be better than ever to attempt a comeback.

here's the info i found from www.paula-online.com
'AMERICAN Idol" hasn't just discovered new pop stars - it's brought back to life an old one. "Idol" judge Paul Abdul and Tamyra Gray - the upbeat Atlanta gospel singer many thought should have been in last night's finals - are being signed to new record deals. Adbul confirmed backstage that she's ready to put out a new CD and take another shot at a career that included a string of hits like "Rush, Rush" and "Forever Your Girl" while selling 36 million records. Meanwhile, "American Idol" Svengali, Simon Cowell, confirmed that his company, S Records, would be giving a contract to Tamyra to record an album. "Obviously, we're not going to let that one get away," he told The Post. On the flipside, Cowell also said he had decided not to sign Christina Christian, the West Indian beauty he admitted he had a crush on. "Idol" contestants signed contracts when they tried out for the show agreeing to record for Cowell's record company, if asked, for a pre-determined fee. Abdul at first hemmed and hawed when asked by The Post if she'd been approached by any labels. "It leaves me tongue-tied," said Abdul, who described what it's like to hear her songs on the radio again, not to mention the screams of fans. But has she been approached by record labels? "Yes," she admits. "I am recording. I am writing again. I'm going to do a kick-butt dance record." An official announcement about which label landed the suddenly high-profile Abdul will probably wait till after "Idol." But you can rule out one company - Cowell's S Records. Cowell laughed when asked if he'd been trying to sign Abdul. "I'll repeat what I've said before," he said. "It's about quality. Does that answer your question?" "I've never been the critics' choice," says Abdul about her light, pop ditties that sold tons of copies but rarely garnered a kind word from reviewers. "But you know what? That's who I am."

What you refer to as "Snake" is really "Cold Hearted"
I want Paula to come back and kick some major ass. If Kylie can do it, so can she.

Kylie has continued in the industry since her debut in 88. Paula also came out in 88. Paula has released a total of 3 albums. Kylie has released 9. Enough said!

and it only took her 12 years to work up the balls to try America again oh, and who wrote a song for whom, hmmmmm? [This message was edited Sun Sep 8 17:32:15 PDT 2002 by Aaron]

[This message was edited Sun Sep 8 17:32:15 PDT 2002 by Aaron] That's because America is fickle musically. Paula hasn't been a smash here either since 1991. Need I remind you of the workout video? I like Paula, but she has nothing on Kylie. 9 albums vs. 3 says a lot. I would like to see the collaborate again, though.

need I remind you that quantity has nothing to with quality Ian? Just take Emancipation vs. Gold.
You're even embarrassed to get into half of Kylie's work cuz you know it's gonna suck. I think they're both pop tarts but Paula has a special place in my heart from childhood.

True, but it says a lot about artistic integrity. What have you always said about Michael Jackson? Since 1979, he's released 6 albums and that it's lame. And you're right. Any artist who wants to be taken seriously (with the one exception of Sade) needs to release more than one album every four years. I am warming up to "Shocked" from 1990's "Rhythm of Love." I don't know if I'm ready to subject myself to the rest of her early work though. "Impossible Princess" is NOT pop!

Yes but Paula essentially left the business after '95. She wasn't even trying to write/record anything during that time. She realized that her time had passed and moved on. I didn't mean for this to turn into a Kylie thread, I was just pointing out that since they have similar backgrounds, it's easy to see how Paula could make a comeback with that style of music too. She said she wants to make a kickass dance record. I hope she's huge.
New Order and Janet have taken huge breaks and they're both top 10 artists for you. So that says what?

She's usually pretty good with tide-me-overs though. I hope Paula comes back hardcore too. I love her! She'll never compare to Kylie for me though.

Paula's best track is Knock-Out...Which sounds like a Pebbles leftover...but it still kicks arse over anything on that album...None of her work came close to the smooth natural sounding groove...It just fit her thin voice perfectly...She needs to keep that in mind when recording this new album...No ultra strained vocals ala Hush Hush...Ooops...I mean, Rush Rush.

Hey, if it worked for Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson, and then J.Lo, well then it can work for Paula Abdul again also.
I wonder what her style and sound would be like though...
