How does the Beatles no1's sound? I've just started geting into the beatles; i have Sgt pepper, revolver and i've ordered the blue and red albums.
Isn;t this the only remastered compilation? I heard it sounds like crap; what does everyone reckon? cheers

I have the original releases of some of the Beatles albums, and there isn't a tremendous difference. They've done well on a few songs, but overall, it's much the same as they were heard in the 60s. Love is really good tough. They've changed a lot of things as far as the song itself goes (While My Guitar is stripped right back, Because is completely a capella etc.) but as for the mastering goes, it's 1000x better. There are some songs that remain the same as the originals, and those songs are worth listening to. The sound is so much better. [Edited 1/27/07 4:12am]

You aren't missing anything if you don't have 1's.

yes that's what i heard. The people in charge should really let steve hoffman master it; he wants to do it and he's the best. Will paul approve the mastering or doesn;t he have a say? If they sound as good as the bowie remasters that would be great.

My personal favourite right now is the 'The Beatles' (White Album). "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" + "Helter Skelter" + "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" =
I held out on buying the Beatles albums for 2 years after first getting into them, waiting for the remasters. Recently I gave in and bought them all. I couldn't stand it any longer. Of course now we hear they are going to be remastered and re-released soon. Figures. [Edited 1/27/07 5:46am] [Edited 1/27/07 5:47am]

Well the sound is better than the studio albums, not as good as LOVE but apart from that I don't think 1's is a good compilation. [Edited 1/27/07 7:07am]

If you just want a career overview buy the red & blue albums. "1" is ok but how can you have The Beatles in your collection without Strawberry Fields?

You will never find a more important, well balanced, experimentally successful two cd set. period.

You will never find a more important, well balanced, experimentally successful two cd set. period. sure you will. Rocky Racoon, Revolution 9 and Honey Pie instantly disqualify it as "experimentally successful." it is great in parts. in fact, about 2/3 of it is top-notch. but this is the first Beatles album with several real dogs turning up. It's just long and boring -- if it were a movie, it'd be "Castaway" (sans Wilson, of course). it is great in parts. in fact, about 2/3 of it is top-notch. but this is the first Beatles album with several real dogs turning up.
It's not my favorite either. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I agree. Those ones are still the best ones to grab. Only if you can get them cheap. If you're going to pay full price, you might as well buy 3 or 4 albums (unless you're waiting for the remasters). "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
