Yeah, I was pissed when that Three Originals CD Import came out some years back, and they skipped over his "Feel" album....but then, even Three Originals went out of print!! ... One of the thing that I loved most about to recent things I've ben playing a lot-- Wayne shorter's High Life, and that guy we were just talking about, Josh Roseman, is that there's a great marriage of composition and freedom, that looseness and improvisation that George is talking about--compositional depth, yet that vibe, that source... Marcus Miller once commented on producing the High Life sessions, because they were using an orchestra for some of Wayne's compositions---and a violinist raised her hand during the sessions, and said, "excuse me, I've noticed something --I'm on A#, and this violinist is on A flat--which one is correct?" - Marcus and Wayne laughed, and Marcus said, "as long as you both play it with coviction, it'll be fine--don't worry"...But apparently a lot of the orchestra didn't quite understand, and thought Wayne was tripping....But once they heard the finished product, they were like, "Oh, wow!!" ...
