I didn't want to re-type all that so I will copy and paste what I posted on the Rick James website.....

In case you guys haven't noticed, since December "Soul Train" has been airing full-length old episodes from the 1970s and 1980s on WGN. It has been absolutely great!

Anyway, I checked the TV Guide website for details on upcoming episodes and this is what I found. All the dates on the site were incorrect (they had Monday dates and we all know that "Soul Train" aires on Saturdays.) Anyway, I gathered the future information and re-typed it for you guys with the correct dates. I know my corrections are correct because I have been recording the show faithfully for the last five or six weeks and my corrected old dates jive with their incorrect dates. Get your VCRs and DVD recorders ready!

Did anybody watch it last week? They had Patrice Rushen and The Sugarhill Gang on there.During the line dance segment,they played "Super Love" by Skyy....who remembers that jam?

Donna has appeared on Soul Train at least 3 times that I know of:

***In early 1976,singing "Could It Be Magic" and "Love To Love You Baby".The other guest was Johnny Taylor.

***in late 1976,singing "Spring Affair" and "Winter Melody" (this is most likely the episode that will air on Feb.24)

***in 1984,singing "There Goes My Baby" and "I'm Free"

I will probably do the same thing I did a few weeks ago when they aired the Levert episode from the late 1980s. I will probably watch it, record it, watch it a few times during the week, get more and more disgusted with the crossover shit, and record over the next week with the next episode.




That's the main one I'm looking forward to. However, before they get through airing these old episodes, they need to play the tribute episode they had to Rick James in 1981. Rick performed about four songs, all the records played for the dancers, including the Soul Train Line was Rick James, even the scramble board answer was Rick James.

On the upcoming episode with Donna Summer, the TV Guide website lists her as performing "Supernatural Love" (which I barely remember and didn't like the song) and The Staple Singers doing "Slippery People" so that lets me know it was 1984. I wonder if she did three songs on that episode.

I'm looking forward to that episode also to see what songs they play for the dancers because there was some great funk out in 1984.

I saw in Soul Train a great performance of Rev. Al Green few weeks ago. He was with his righ arm hurt or something and did a tremendous live version of Come and Take Me .

I saw it. It wasn't all that but at least it was better than the 1986 episode with Levert and James Ingram a few weeks ago (that I recorded over ). I'll probably save this episode though because at least it contained funk (what little was left back then). The songs they played were some of the best they could, for 1988 anyway. But hearing all those songs from the year 1988 brought back some depressing memories of what else was all over the radio at the time that didn't get played on the show.....because they would have been too slow to dance to.

I was surprised with The Bus Boys performance. I remember them being rock so I was expecting them to be my least favorite of the guests. Those guys had changed their style and put some funk into it. Hell, they should have let them do two songs and let Pebbles do only one song, instead of that boring adult contemporary song she did at the end of the show.

Anyway, I hope they are through playing around in the late 1980s and go no further than 1984. I'm really dying to see some episodes from 1978 and 1979 when disco was huge. That's when I first started watching the show.
