80s R&B groove of the day: "Too Tough" by Angela Boffill (1983)

headbang headbang headbang headbang

This song really took me by surprise.Angela Boffill's previous hits were mostly Quiet Storm midtempo jams ("I Try","Angel Of The Night",etc) but in 1983 she got funky with "Too Tough",a hot, catchy jam produced by Narada Michael Walden.I couldn't believe the lyrics when I first heard it...

That's right baby,I want you right in-between me
not too big,not too small, just right
That's right!

lol sounds like she's been listening to Vanity 6

I don`t like the lyrics, but i would love to hear the entire album, especially her cover of "Ain`t nothing like the real thing" and "Song for a rainy day"

I almost forgot about this one. Reminds me of something Teena Marie would've done.

I was wondering about that too...her site is down at the moment...
I know lots of artists were doing tributes for her, since the stroke last year...

nod paligap, you are listing some JAMS.

I love "Tropical Love" and "Song for a Rainy Day" [the way she sulks at the beginning is strangely beautiful to me] "...you cast me asssiiiidddeeeee.."

There's another song I really like by her called "Black Angel." I have it on a compilation, but I'm not sure where it comes from.

Also, I really dig her "Love In Slow Motion" CD. "Let Them Talk" "Galaxy of My Love."

Umm, I don't usually check for Miss Bofill when it comes to some stomp down FUNK JAMS. smile

I usually listen to her when I want some good bedtime/nighttime music. nod

The most funky and danceable song of hers I can think of off the top of my head is "Generate Love."

Great jam. It's definately my favorite from Angela Bofill.

I met her once and she autographed my 45s "Too Tough" and "Tonight I Give In" and also my greatest hits CD. She's a real nice lady and her eyes opened wide when I pulled out 45s. She said "OOOOHHHHH 45s, I know you didn't just go out and buy my music because you knew I was going to be here. You can't just go out and buy those whenever you want. I would be more than happy to sign them".

Does anyone know how she's doing health-wise? Didn't she have an illness and no medical insurance? I think there was a benefit for her recently.
