Hell fuckin' naw! That bitch's music is weak and always has been. Tina made hard ass music. Mary J. Blige couldn't make hard music if she wanted to.

FUCKING HELL NO!

no no no.

I can't believe the blasphemy of this thread lol

1. Tina sings on key
2. Tina can sell out soccer stadiums and arenas.
3. Tina has never been a coke whore
4. Tina was never just an urban artist (solo). Her catalog encompasses rock, pop, etc.
5. Tina is a fucking ICON around the GLOBE.
6. She can dance.
7. Her records use live instruments.
8. She's fucking...TINA TURNER.
lol

Not to take anything away from Mary J...she's had a brilliant career on her own, staying power, a great run, is still on top of her game, especially in today's climate...but Tina she aint.

ACTUALLY U R wrong! BREAKTHROUGH is 2X platinum and since her MARY album from 99 her records sales have pretty much been equal or higher. 5x platinum for NO MORE DRAMA..released aug 28th, 2001.. her higest selling album to date.

I was not a fan of MARY's work till 99 Her enlightenment is a lesson so many people can learn from. She decided to not continue living for misery or the people thriving from her pain. She took her pain and turned it into power. Therefore jeopardizing her fame and succuss, I commnend her.. so people can say what they wanna say.. but AT THE END OF THE DAY.. she is just MARY.. TAKE HER AS SHE IS OR HAVING NOTHING..She is a motivator and an true example of a beautiful, intelligent black woman.

Mary debut album (What's The 411?) is her only classic.

Love that one, but I'll go with My Life as her best album. In fact, I'd go so far as to call it the best ever use of sampling in R&B.

current day Mary reminds me of
Natalie Cole when the 80's
started to approach (minus the drugs)
how her sound kind of crossed over...

i.e. Natalie remade "L.S.D." (Beatles), "Cry Baby" (Janis)
Mary remade "One" (U2), "Piece Of My Heart" (Janis)

I just see certain similarities
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

Is Mary J. the modern-day Tina Turner? To quote Whitney Houston, "HELL TO THE NO!"
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

Have any of you guys even seen the DVD I'm referring too?? I agreed that starting out her live vocals were horrible, but that far from the truth now. Maybe it was that one night but Mary was tearing down the house.

And most want to attack for singing songs that seem depressing?? At least she wrote most of her catalog. Did Tina write even 10% of any of her mega hits?? I always have alot more respect for artist when the material they perform come from their heart and not somebody else's head. Share My World was one of the most powerful from Mary that stays with me from this day.

And her band on stage is a bad as any I've heard in a while and I've been a performing musician for over 13 years. On more than four instruments. So I kinda know something about music.

All of your opinions still matter so thanks for posting.

I'm hoping that just means you're relatively new to those two. As much as I love Mary, I don't think she's ever sold anything like, say, "I Never Loved a Man the Way That I Love You," "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man," "River Deep, Mountain High" or "Proud Mary." Aretha and Tina are as popular and influential as they are for a reason; they are the Big Two.

There's nothing wrong with R&B as long as it's R&B. When it's shit hop sounding, there's plenty wrong with it.

no actually i do understand. and when exactly was this so-called "happy" album? no there's nothing wrong with expressing yourself through your pain and real life experiences, but damn i don't want to hear you whine about your life for almost 15 years....when you go through pain, don't want to see and feel the sunshine at the end of the tunnel? well why not sing about that then. that's all i'm saying...

maybe this is why the last album i bought of hers was "mary"...

i think it was her last album that was supposedly happier but it didn't do as well. so i guess people respond to her more when she's in pain.

And what's more impressive is that Tina's had a harder life then Mary has. Yet you don't get that depressive vibe from her. MJB is nowhere near being in Tina's league.

Wow. We're really going to boil it down to who's life was riddled with more abuse? confused That's kinda sad, really.
I wasn't trying to do that. I was trying to say that you don't get that depressive vibe from Tina's music, like you do MJB's even though she's had it rough. Not that it matters but the reason why I think Tina had it worse is that she was married to a fool like Ike Turner.
