My girlfriend downloaded the album from iTunes. It's really good, but I'll be damned if it's not sleep-inducing.

Im sure next week will be a slight drop or holding around the same, this week is Mellencamp (which is amazing, but just for the loyals) and i think theres some country group too, which always is dangerous. After that Norah Jones and Katharine Mcphee hit on the 30th and I can see Norah moving at least 100,000 week one and dont sleep on Mcphee either, though she has no video, she is doing every single talk show that week and throughout february, so if that Daughtry guy can move records, she better. After that its grammy time (feb 11th) which is always a time that the labels and performers see rises in their numbers, depending on the winners and who performers, right now the only confirmed performers are , The Chili Peppers,Dixie Chicks,Justin and Beyonce/Shakira doing their new song together, which obviously will kick some live into her album again (beyonce that is). Outside of that the Industry better pray Norah,Mcphee and the grammy rush can hold it up, because there is nothing else on the way.

It's funny that she kept saying she got it off Itunes and now all the Oprah fans are doing the same exact thing!

I agree. It's good, but mellow

I bought her album the week it was released because VH1 Soul has these weekends where they feature the artist coming out with and album. They get to have their own countdown, perform live, and play the whole album with pretty pictures lol That is one of the things I love about that channel biggrin

Actually, I think she said she was going to stop eating beef and all of her borgs followed suit

I have witnessed some other musical careers that took off, without merit, after being on her show

Im not really surprised by the number, im thinking we will start seeing alot of that on a weekly basis. I also think that things now, especially for established artists are going to be "slow burn" type sellers, case in point the Carly Simon record which people were surprised at first of its very low total has now gotten to 100,000 units and she is selling between 10-25,000 weekly, so if she stayed on that pace for 6-8 weeks she could have a 200,000 seller at least which is quite respectable.

Norah will move more than 100K...her last one did over 1 million first week out...granted..she was riding the Grammy wave...but the marketing campaign on this one is MASSIVE...it'll be much more than 100K...I'd say between 450K-600K....she's doing a ton of TV next week and day of street including Today Show...Letterman, The View (I think)...

McPhee...very curious to see how this one pans out...Taylor is selling slowly..Chris Daughtry is #1...she was the other fav...it will probably do great first week.

I do think the 450 + mark might be reaching at this point, though there is massive promotion going on and VH1 is playing her as usual, I think the fact that to most people she has been gone 3 years now and thats a long time in this enviroment, though she has a strong following, she is going slowly back to the loyal fans (like me) with her approach to mainstream (which she's not). I do think overall this will be the solid seller that the industry needs to hang its hat on at this point, because theres isnt really anything on the way that can maintain numbers, easily will be a million seller for Norah in the states, i just think it will be a slow burn with sales, and will show the steady decline in the "craze" fan base she had at the time.

As for Katharine Mcphee, i still say this one could be the surprise overall, since no one is really buzzing to much over it, but she has built a Huge following by taking the time and not releasing an album last year when everyone else from AI did, and as we see it worked for Daughtry but not for Hicks. I think Mcphee's appeal is more widespread, they are aiming her at rb/pop but those who have had advance listens to the cd say its very mixed and is similar to Mariahs first two albums. So i think she too could be a steady mover, i think her and Norah will have strong weeks and give the charts a new 1 and 2 CD easily, she too has extensive appearances slated next week and the week after with talk show.media and concerts, but also an appearance on ABC's Ugly Betty the day after the cd comes out.

I agree about Norah..she is past the 'sensation' phase COME AWAY WITH ME is at 9million + and FEELS LIKE HOME did half that. I've heard the new album and it's a VERY strong album...stronger than the last one I feel and the first 2 singles will be VH-1 mainstays...NOT TOO LATE will have legs...she's also opened herself to promote her albums more as she is not as shy as she once was. She's also saluting her fans from the start by doing in-stores at indie retail (Amoeba Hollywood for instance)

McPhee could suprise people. I just think people may be wanting a more subdued, vocal, pop album and not the poished pop/r&b that this seems to be. If the songs are catchy than maybe it'll strike a chord. This is the time for non-Idol winners to make big...J. Hudson, Daughtry, even Kellie Picklers country record is selling steady (already Gold)....

we'll have to wait and see but it will be nice to see the charts not look so sad!

peace

Yeah i agree on both fronts, I got a chance to preview the Norah material at a club gig here in NYC that she did on the "DL" and i love the material and it still amazes me that people dont see the growth in her as a writer/singer and musician and just dismiss her as "boring".

With Mcphee i have heard alot of complaints from her "loyal" idol fans and myspace groups and official websites, that an RB/POP album is the worst thing that someone who can "sing" should be doing especially now. The album does have some strong vocal performances but whether the label markets that or not is the question.

Robin Thicke is at 15!! when did he blow up? im so happy for him.

Look for his album to be a bit bigger once the deluxe edition of EORT is reissued next month on the 13th...

hmmm I hadn't heard that. I assume it's going to have a lot of the unreleased tracks that have been already circulating.

I agree with you totally on Kat. Isnt Norah's stuff great? I was lucky to get invited to a secret private show couple months ago here in LA. We were taken to a small studio in Burbank and they let us in one by one...there were about 30 of us and out came Norah and the band and performed the new album beginning to end. It was amazing. The song 'Rosie's Lullaby' really struck a chord with me...reminded me of Lucinda Williams..another favorite of mine!

Check Amazon they have the cover art even though it's the same as the original version with a gold tint. The tracklist hasn't been finalized yet but there's a rumor that Ask Myself will feature Mary J. Blige and be released as a single...
