'Rubina' By Joe Satriani-Beautiful! This song, especially that main guitar sound that starts off the song, which I suppose could be called its riff, although it seems much too soft and delicate to call it that as opposed to the usual big sounding riffs that are accustomed with the majority of rock songs. But the whole piece is just such a touching instrumental with one of the loveliest melodies I have heard in a rock song.
I have usually placed Satriani in the same company as I do Steve Vai as not being one of my favorite guitar players because of their often mechanical and hundred notes a second soloing techniques and such. But as with pretty much every music artist out there, there are always wonderful exceptions with their music and songs. Vai certainly has many of those to me as well, and this music piece by Satriani is without question one of the great exceptions to his work. So does anyone else on this board really enjoy this song also?

I love Rubina, but I wouldn't call it an exception. Satch has many softer melodic pieces imo...

Yes I agree. I also love his guitar ballads 'Love Thing', 'Thinking Of You' and 'Until We Say Goodbye'. I am just saying that I am not really into the majority of his stuff, which I find to be a bit excessive. Just my taste.

I think you'll like the album "Super Colossal" if you haven't already heard it... it's very restrained, atmospheric and melodic. [Edited 1/23/07 13:38pm]

By the way coolcat, I would also like to add 'Crying' to the list of Satriani songs that I do like. Its another very pleasent sounding song.
