Tori's magical and a goddess! Olivia flies, has super roller-skating speed, and has a purple aura in Xanadu. Plus her dad is Zeus. Oh, and she turns into a cartoon fishie at one point in the movie. Beat that, Tori.

Yeah, I like her post-Grease stuff a lot but there's a whole lot of good music before that, too. Please Mister Please is cheesy as hell, but I love it. It does seem that she only comes up in conversation here if it relates to Xanadu. I like that stupid fucking movie, and I love the soundtrack but she's got better music than that. They should have put Fool Country on that soundtrack but didn't (it finally showed up on her Gold collection). But I think my favorite of hers will always be A Little More Love http://www.youtube.com/wa...A15AjSzJPs

Complete SHock! It can still happen yet. I didn't get her nor Carly nor Karen Carpenter until I was older...like after 30.
But there is also a cheeeeese factor with Olivia to get over. Like most Aussie music I know I know you hate that word, but I can't think of anything else to describe some of the music like Xanadu or Magic or Physical. But there are some great moments like Hopelessly devoted to you and I honestly Love you. Christian Zombie Vampires

no DUde you should see that! Really all of it is good and she really shines. I think if you saw that you might get her. Xanadu is pure camp and while enjoyable, it's hard to feel her out on that one. Prolly cuz she's roller skating all over the place. Christian Zombie Vampires

Don't watch that movie I do think the big reason she gets props here is because Xanadu is loved as well as Grease. Not sure if either were big hits overseas. Christian Zombie Vampires

I like her music (mainly for her voice) and even Grease. But Xanadu, the movie I could never watch more than 10 minutes. It makes me feel embarrassed like few things do. I get all and I just have to stop watching.

I had the priviledge fo meeting Olivia and must tell you is some experience!!! she is like an angel both on and off the stage. Very easy to approach and to talk to . she is the same way you see her on tv and interviews it doesn't get any better than that. Very appreciative and caring she doesn't deserve all the tribulations and pain she has gone thru but managed the turn it into a positive experience. I liked Xanadu even though it was a little bit over the top but the music is beautiful and olivia looks very pretty... I Honestly love her...

The thing to keep in mind with getting into Olivia at this point, I believe, is that while the trendiness in the music style may have passed (waayyyy long ago), her voice and talent is what shines through. Like Ella, you know? Tisket-a-tasket isn't exactly cutting edge (bad example, since it was a novelty to begin with), but it's her instrument that makes her a legend. Olivia is so under-rated by most people as a truly legendary singer, I think. Hope that changes one day!

I absolutely adore ONJ's voice and have done so since the late 70's when I first heard her on the radio, as a child (me, not Livvy).
HOWEVER, I don't think her newer work gets enough attention at all. "Grace And Gratitude" (2006) is a wonderful new age type effort and was easily my favorite album of the year. "Gaia" (1994) is in a similar vein and is near the top of my 90's "Top 10". I think everyone should add those two albums to their collection. They really are a beautiful change from your typical shallow pop offering. For those that like her more country tuned efforts there's "Back With A Heart" (1998). There's a couple of recent pop efforts - "(2)", a duets album released in 2002, and "Stronger Than Before" (2005). ...and an album devoted to classic female singers "Indigo" (2004). She's, also, made good use of her popularity to promote the awareness of environmental issues (the packaging of 1989's "Warm & Tender" was created using recycled paper) and her latest two releases ("Stronger Than Before" and "Grace & Gratitude") have seen a percentage of the profits going to Breast Cancer research and have been initially marketed exclusively towards women in partnership with Hallmark and Walgreens.
