1980s Jam of the Day: Midnight Star "Curious"

This album track from the 1984 "Planetary Invasion" is a percussion-based groove that was arguably the group's best song not on their breakthrough album "No Parking on the Dance Floor."
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

It's one of my favorite Midnight Star songs too. I think the lead vocals sound alot like Marvin Gaye.

It's not the vocals that evoke comparisons to Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" as much as the percussion-driven groove, IMO.

I've always thought this groove was taken from the vein of Gaye's Sexual Healing, bought use the Roland TR-808.
