Robin Thicke

I recently have been listening to a talented 'new' artist who has a lot of similarities with Prince though not his caliber yet artistically or musically. He has a promising future...thus far he has demonstrated versatility, his music is very smooth, sensual, and even spiritual. He lists Prince, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder as his influences and he also writes, arranges, and produces most of his music. He's been in the industry since sixteen and made his debut back in 2003. Thicke's A Beautiful World tanked mostly because it was not easily categorized, but critically it was a success...Does anyone feel this man as much as I do???

I haven't even picked up his newest joint yet. I heard it was one incredible effort. But I have heard Lost Without You and I was floored at how this man could actually write a song that sounds so much like something Marvin Gaye would sing. It's that good, and I first thought this was a Maxwell cut.

I've heard alot of people saying that...but he's a bit of a chameleon with his vocals..If you listen to his first album you don't get as much falsetto but the cuts are also over the place musically. On his new album he kinda leans on his falsetto rather hard, but I love the effect....

I have his first CD "Beautiful World". It's amazing - probably my favorite CD that came out that year. He mixed equal parts Prince, MJ, Stevie Wonder, and The Beatles into a very pleasant sound. This album was all over the place musically, but I think he pulled it off nicely.

My only complaint is that he seems to have ditched the "hippy white dude" persona of the first CD for the current "R&B wanna-be black guy" persona. It seems like his sound/look now are fabricated by a producer (Pharrell) instead of his own.

I don't really care for the new sound either -- too much falsetto, too much R&B crooning and too many hip-hop guest stars. I don't own the second CD and I doubt I will. Everything I've heard so far has been a ballad and they all sound the same to me now.

LOVE the first CD though. I hope he goes back to that sound.

He has a good voice and a couple of good songs one of which I really dig. Tough I feel like most of the songs sound too similar. I saw him at a concert about a month ago. He's attractive and all the girls went crazy, but him touching his crotch all the time was a real turn off for me. confused

He is my angel, period. There isn't a song out there that makes me feel as good as "Brand New Jones" does (1st album) and there isn't a song out there that inspires me as much as "Can U Believe" (2nd album). I can't praise him enough. I hope he can find a good way to mix the sounds and styles from both albums into his next one

Me too..BTW I once read that Brand New Jones is about masturbating (Robin's words), but I still love that song... He even put his soon to be wife in the video, now thats love not to mention the album cover...Their union just seems so ideal and his music actually emphasizes monogamy which just adore!!!

confused Have you ever really listened to it?

I've got a brand new jones
And nobody even knows
When my baby is gone
It's my thang, my thang
Sometimes I can't let go
So I've got to be alone
When my baby is gone
It's my thang, my thang alone

She was also in his Sprite commercial and she is in the Lost Without U video. Having seen them together in person several times, it's safe to say the boy is IN LOVE! lol I've never seen anyone so sprung in my life!

In terms of monogamy, you haven't heard "Threesome" lol

Actually I have heard threesome and interpret it as her thing (after something I read) but yeah he probably gets a lot of attention and could easily be into that. To each his own...I still think his songs endorse love and relationships in general...
