Marvin Gaye Curtis Mayfield Jackie Wilson Otis Redding James Brown Luther Vandross (though i'm not a fan...i'll give the man credit) Barry (m-fuckin') White Prince even

John Lee Hooker would be included as well in that case.

If there is an unofficial "King of Black Contemporary Popular Music" -- for those playing too tight with the definition of "R&B" -- here are the true contenders for the throne, IMO:

in the words of whitney HELL NO! He had some awesome songs in the 80's but that doesn't make him the king of anything, he was just a fad and both of them know it
I think people who deserve the title are: Michael Jackson Prince Stevie Wonder Marvin Gaye Luther Vandross R.Kelly but then again I think titles are dumb and everyone has a unique talent that speaks for itself. | |
