80's R&B Jam of the Day: Billy Ocean "Love Zone"

Now I hate Billy Ocean's mid-1980s to late 1980s music as much as the next man, but the title track to his 1986 album was a gem of a song, anchored by a throbbing bass guitar groove. It's a pretty funky ballad -- one that predictably did better on the R&B charts (landing at No. 1 on the Billboard R&B charts) than the pop charts (it peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100).

THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

I just added this (along with Billy's other hits) to my iPod last week. Don't love it as much now as I did back in '86, but it's still good.

I just recently discovered this CD and I'm surprised how much I like the entire thing. Of course "Love Zone" is one of my favorites on it but I am really diggin' the whole album. Hearing those old songs brought back memories, so I suppose that also may be a factor in my enjoyment of this album, but I'm enjoying it nontheless. "Sad Songs", and "When the Tough Get Going" is also some of the other hit singles that are on this one.

My employer recently did a little house cleaning and I got some old skool out of it from the 80's and Billy Ocean's CD was one of them.

*I also got a bunch of vinyl albums from everyone from the Pointer Sisters to Huey Lewis. I also got the soundtrack to the movie "Perfect" which I literally had been looking for for year.

I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.
