90s House Grooves

There were a lot of hot songs at that time, unfortunately a lot of them were instrumentals and I don’t know or can’t recall the names… I know them when I hear them. Here are some that really stand out to me…when they came on you were definitely on the floor and you could feel the energy of the crowd pick up immediately.

I Get Lifted - Barbara Tucker
I’ll Be Your Friend – Robert Owens
Can You Feel It – Fingers, Inc.
The Whistle Song – Frankie Knuckles whistling
Beat that Bitch With A Bat headbang
The Pressure – Sounds of Blackness
Black Betty - ?
Everybody Be Somebody - ? headbang was this Barbara Tucker?
Gotta Love for You – Jomanda
What About This Love – Mr. Fingers
Closer – Mr. Fingers
French Kiss - Lil Louis & the World tonk
I Called You – Lil Louis & the World
Clouds (C&C remix) – Chaka Khan
I Can’t Get No Sleep – (La) India worship
Set Your Lovin’ Free (MAW remix) – Lisa Stansfield bananadance
Strange (Silk remix)- EnVogue
Makin’ Happy – Crystal Waters
Jack Your Body
Beautiful People – Barbara Tucker worship deep deep inside, deep deep down inside
Gett Off remix – Prince
Pump Up the Jam – Technotronic
Always There – Incongnito
Rejoicing – Ultra Nate
Baby Wants to Ride – Jamie Principle
Tears – Robert Owens
Let No Man Put Us Under (No man in the world) remix – First Choice
Direct Me – The Reese Project
Comin’ On Strong - Desiya
It's Over Now - Ultra Nate

I love French Kiss! People like to giggle about Technotronic, but they were one of the early ones to really popularize the genre; they were truly a house act. I'd also put Vogue in there, too. Let No Man Put Asunder is a classic, but yes, I dig that 90s house remix too. Robin S' Show Me Love is another goodie from that era.

I'm sort of over house music now, but I used to love it. There was a period of time when I was going out damn near every week. I never drank; it was just to go dancing. Frankie Knuckles or David Morales is involved in almost all of those songs you mentioned. lol Makin' Happy is my fave cut from Crystal Waters. Others I liked

Everybody's Free - Rozalla
Dream Drums - Lectroluv
I'm Gonna Get You - Bizarre Inc
Fired Up - Funky Green Dogs
One More Try (Soundfactory Mix) - Kristine W
The Bomb - Bucketheads (overplayed but a classic that I can still listen to)
Ride on Time - Black Box

There's more, but those are off the top of my head. Ten City were great, but they might have been late 80s? confuse Jason Nevins did a hot remix of Run DMC's It's Like That

That would be One by One and it's a good one! It jump started her career again. That remix sent her back in the direction of dance music.

Nah, that was Ruffneck feat. Yavahn. Released in 1995.

When I was living in S.E. Michigan that used to get a lot of radio play on weekend sets.

I love the remix of the song. During that year, I had something called "Music Choice" which was a box plugged into the cable and it had 30 something commercial free stations....and one of them was called the "Dance" channel. I kept the box for three months (free trial lol ) and I was a cassette recording motherfucker those three months.

I love the drums in the intro of that song. They reminded me of people stomping on bleachers in a gym. Several house songs had those drums that year. One of them was an absolute JAM! I don't know who the group was but the song was done in Spanish and the main word in the chorus was "Canoramo" (I don't know if that's what is was saying, I just spelled out the way it sounded. lol )

"just plain funky" was my cut...this record was my introduction to the full scope of the genius of Masters at Work. Not quite Nuyorican Soul, but close.

I was just playing Bucketheads the other day! smile

There's another cut I like by B.Box called "I Don't Know Nobody Else" -- their tunes all tended to sound the same, tho.

Yeah, Nevins was HOT with that entire single.

Technotronic was NOT a house music act, at least not true Garage house music. They were an act that made a different kind of R&B pop music. Ask any true "house head" and he will tell you. They others that are on this list made more of a contribution to house music. If you really want to hear house music, try looking up Chicago based artists. People like, Mr. Fingers and Marshall Jefferson....You have included Frankie Knuckles on this list, which is great but, you need to go back and add many more. Some of the one's on your list, are commercial artist that have their records remixed to sound like house.
