Awesome list!! Some great ones in there. Just out of curiousity - why "Kashka from Baghdad"?

Read the lyrics:

Kashka from Baghdad lives in sin they say,
With another man,
But no-one knows who.

Old friends never call there,
Some wonder if life's inside at all,
If there's life inside at all.
But we know the lady who rents the room,
She catches them Õ la lune.

Chorus

At night they're seen,
Laughing, loving,
They know the way
To be happy.

They never go for walks,
Maybe it's because the moon's not bright enough,
There's light in love you see.
I watch their shadows,
Tall and slim in the window opposite,
I long to be with them.
'Coz when all the alley-cats come out,
You can hear music from Kashka's house.

Chorus

LoL, they ARE. I did not even check!

It is a Dutch release. They kind of did a 'best of', but it was probably a rights issue to include the Weather Girls' version of Raining Men and also old stuff like Marianne Rosenberg, which is a real Dutch gay anthem, as are some others.

The actual LIST was this;

1 YMCA Village People

were there any 50's/60's rock or R&B singers that later came out as gay, or who were big amongst the gay crowd?

I know Dusty Springfield (although - did she ever publicly come out?)

Can it be like the Homo Top 100, where it can be just played in the gay disco and be declared gay by reference?

I love that stupid list. It's got Dutch artist, disco, Abba and people we WANT to be gay, like Robbie Williams. Hehehe.

Carl Bean - "I Was Born This Way"

This defining gay anthem was released in 1977. It peaked at number 15 on the "Billboard" Club Play chart. A popular remix by Gomi issued in 2005 brought the song back for a new generation of dancing queens.

All of the disco stuff (by straight and gay artists) from the 1970s ranging from the widely popular stuff like "YMCA" by The Village People to the "known only in the gay community" songs like "I Don't Wanna Be Alone" by Eartha Kitt (although I think that particular one may be from the 1980s). Sylvester is definately an icon also.

All the underground house music from the mid to late 1980s such as "Jack Your Body" by JM Silk to the above ground stuff in the 1990s such as "Finally" by Cee Cee Penniston, as well as the underground house in the 1990s.

Martha Wash is THE gay icon from the stuff she did as a background singer for Sylvester, her stuff with her and Izora Rhodes under the name Two Tons O Fun, and the stuff she also did with Izora Rhodes in the 1980s under the name The Weather Girls.....especially "It's Raining Men".

To sum it all up, disco and house music are "gay music".
Andy is a four letter word.

Freddie Mercury was a high profile gay artist, and I think he was very important when it came to awareness of AIDS and how it touches so many different people.

"I Want to Break Free" might be a good song to include...
I was going to suggest I Want To Break Free, too. I just want to add Freddie was bisexual.

So Freddie did like women, huh? I dont think so. From what I read, (and listening to the lyrics that he wrote), Freddie was not bisexual, but gay. I think MAYBE at the earlier time in his life he might have been bisexual, but when he broke up with that Mary Austin chick that he had been dating for a long time, thats when he was finally coming to terms with being gay (listen to Bo Rap).I truly don't think that Freddie liked women like that (he had respect for women, and probably admired their beauty, which most gay men do, as well as straight men), I think he was just confused at an earlier part of his life, but then he finally came to the realization that he was just gay, but those are just my thoughts. You might want to see this also:

Agreed, you most certainly should... To make it twice as gay use Porter's "Anything Goes" as sung by John Barrowman.
