The Most Criminally Slept On Hip-Hop Album of all Time.... ...I used to say was .
But the perspective on that album has changed considerably over the last 5 to 7 years or so and it doesn't really qualify anymore. In fact, I've read some places where it's been called one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. Clearly, the slumber is over. So I will submit to you, a worthy qualifier for this title. From that golden era of the early 90's (arguably the most creative era in the genre)... If you don't know...

What??? I'll give love to Souls of Mischef, but whoever is calling Blowout Comb best Hip Hop album is on meth. Illmatic blows it out of the water.
I always felt that the Alkaholics were always slept on. They have a following, but never get the all out love that other cats get. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

but the thing is yeah they are known but shit but people slept on the material Cin, for instance remember Camp-lo? you cant tell me luccini wasnt tha shit..

Who was sleeping on Camp-Lo? I lived in a rural farming community of 5,000 people (angle parking on main street) in the Canadian midwest and I heard about all these people.
I'm going to figure out some other names appropriate for this list and get back to ya.

Well, the title of the thread isn't "The most slept on unknown artists" it's the most slept on albums. You can be a known artist and have your shit still get slept on. Cornbread, Grits, and Collard Greens/I got what you need/If you want it/Cuz I'm a pimp, girl/With a drippy, juicy Jheri Curl

But that's Souls Of Mischief's most famous album, so goeswithoutsayin'.

OK here's an example of a slept on album based on awesomeness hiphop essence vs visibility:
The Nonce - World Ultimate (1995)

It's not about being unknown or known. It's about an underappreciated piece of work. However many people know about it, not enough people know about it is my point. When people talk about the great hip-hop albums, not just of all-time, but even in an era, you don't hear this album mentioned. Now I realize 'opinions are like assholes' and all, but from my perspective it should be mentioned.

Well, "most famous" is relative. For Hip Hop Headz, yes. For the average Hip Hop fan, probably not. Cornbread, Grits, and Collard Greens/I got what you need/If you want it/Cuz I'm a pimp, girl/With a drippy, juicy Jheri Curl

Blowout Comb was good times. I'll never get the horns from the first track out of my head. Always makes me wanna sneak up on the man and take him out before he makes Pam Grier turn more tricks so she can payback that hash she stole.

I've slept on most all of them these days. They're certainly slow enough to put you to sleep. Andy is a four letter word.

From that golden era of the early 90's (arguably the most creative era in the genre)... If you don't know... Gotta agree w/ Blowout Comb. That is an amazing piece of work. Hip Hop or otherwise. Whats gets me is how smoothly they meshed the samples and live instrumentation. It still floors me how organic this album sounds. It wasnt til I started gettin into jazz that I peeped some of the samples that Dig Plans used on this album. This should be required listening for the anti-sampling crowd. Dig Plans used samples in a way that maintained the integrity of the original composition, while pushing it forward at the same time. Man, its been 13 years since this album was released, and im still in "thats where they got that from" mode. And then theres the lyrics: All Day Long! Def. Criminally overlooked. 2nd most overlooked IMO: De LA Soul - Buhloon Mindstate A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.
