3) Dire Straits "sultans of swing" (live from "alchemy" live album)- Can't fuck with the end solo. Knofler rarely shows off, but he fucking brings the house down at the end.

OK, last 2 are from session musicians, so don't hate

2) Chicago "the pull" (bruce gaitsch)

1) Planet 3 "welcome to love" (Jay graydon)

Funny how my no.1 pick is a very short solo. But the sound, the melody, the backing etc... I love it.

PurpleJam

Here are the 3 that I will choose for TODAY.

Doo Doo Doo Doo(Heartbreaker)-The Rolling Stones(either the studio or the europe '73 live version will do actually) from the album 'Goats Head Soup'

Tender Surrender-Steve Vai(not a big fan of Vai, but this is one beautiful instrumental by the man!) from the album 'Alien Love Secrets'

Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad-Derek and The Dominos from the 'Live At The Fillmore' album(my very well be Clapton's greatest playing ever)

It was first released on Clapton's debut album. He then took the song to the live stage with D&D.

Thanx. I love both versions. Did you do a thread on clapton's "grand illusion" LOL. I replied.

I feel like a total pop tart after reading all that. Okay here goes:

Eddie Van Halen-Beat It

Slash-O Sweet Child of Mine

Running in the Night-Lionel Richie (awesome guitar in that, whoever did it)

"sweet child of mine" guitar solo is killer, but I prefer "november rain" in the solo steaks.

coolcat

I'm sticking to vocal songs... These would be different if I was going with instrumentals

1. When Doves Cry - Prince
2. Beat It - EVH
3. Faded Photographs (Sheila E) - Levi Seacer I believe

Steve Lukather played the solo to Running With the Night. He also played the rhythm guitar/main riff on "Beat It". Here he is in action: http://www.youtube.com/wa...JmamH614FE
