how can you make the song "i love rock'n'roll" into a classic, then not be inducted to the RNRHOF? it seems like she should be the mascot! lol

I'm surprised Van Halen wasn't inducted in 2003, when they were first eligible.

A pretty deserving group, though I'm not really big on any of them. To me the only questionable one is the act I probably like the most: the Ronettes. They were more of an adjunct to Phil Spector's hit machine than anything, and while the tunes were brilliant, I wouldn't say that warrants a separate slot in the HoF for them. They were Spector's triumph, and he's already in.

pretty sure. fortunately, they were one of the first acts to have a record out in 1979, and tenure is one of the RRHOF's main criteria.

Its a deserving group, but to me the RNR hall of fame is so damn confusing. A few years back John Mellencamp was on the ballot and 3 straight years didnt get enough votes. Well i would accept that, but then to see some of the artists that got in, Percy Sledge? If the Hall of Fame is about influence that what was Percy's, sure it was a big song, but does that mean we induct the Escape Club because they had a big hit too. Im not really sure who's voting and what they are on, but i still question The New York Dolls getting in also over Mellencamp. As far as Joan Jett, i was thinking that the other day, now tell me she hasnt influenced any females in rock music? or her music hasnt lasted.

I think Jovi can possibly be eligible in 2008 since "Runaway" appeared on a compliation early 1983, but they def should be in by 2009 since the Album came out 1984. I think Jovi gets in first ballot no problem.

Hmmm....

Patti Smith makes rock hall, but where's Iggy?
January 8, 2007

BY BRIAN MCCOLLUM

FREE PRESS POP MUSIC WRITER

Ready to rumble, Detroit rock fans?

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame unveiled its 2007 class of inductees Monday, and the names constitute a formidable five in American music: alterna-rock pioneer R.E.M., hard rock titan Van Halen, hip-hop innovator Grandmaster Flash, quintessential girl-group the Ronettes and punk-poet priestess Patti Smith, a onetime Detroiter.

Just one thing missing. Again.

The Stooges.

Monday’s announcement leaves Iggy Pop and his groundbreaking Michigan band 0-for-6 at the rock hall. Six times nominated by the committee that crafts the annual ballot; six times rejected by the 600-some voters -- critics, historians, industry figures -- who select the inductees.

Artists are eligible 25 years after their first recording. This year, only R.E.M. was a first-shot inductee.

It isn’t just hometown parochialism to rue the omission of the Stooges, along with their 1960s contemporaries and fellow Detroit rabble-rousers the MC5: Both groups are widely -- and zealously -- heralded as the founding fathers of punk and heavy metal, and many of their followers are already enshrined in the solemn upper room at the hall’s Cleveland museum.

So, no Stooges, no Iggy, no Sabbath and now Grand Master Flash? disbelief

They need to change the name to omit Rock & Roll from the name. It's almost as lame as the so-called museum.

Van Halen hasn't been getting much respect lately. People have even been knocking Eddie's playing.

Not at all, quite the opposite in some cases but it's not called the R&B Hall of Fame or the Rap Hall of Fame or the Hip Hop Hall of Fame (all great ideas to shine some light on their greatness) but...

It's suppose to be Rock & Roll in which Grand Master Flash isn't.

So I'm just a little confuse

It would be very crazy for a lot of those people to be inducted in before Donna Summer, whose music probably influenced a whole mess of those folks (certaintly Madonna, Janet and possibly NIN).
