The Worst Albums Of 2006

There were some good moments last year in music, even though the CD sells weren't that great. But there were plenty of embarrassing and disappointing ones. These were some of the albums I thought were just not up to the standards:

Pharrell Williams: In My Mind

Fergie: The Dutchess

Paris Hilton: Paris

Brooke Hogan: Undiscovered

Kelis: Kelis Was Here

Gwen Stepfani: The Sweet Escape

Justin Timberlake: FutureSex/LoveSounds

Can you think of any albums that were just crappy last year?

i thought the kelis album was fun. shrug

fergie's album was so bad that i think it almost rates as its own kind of high art. lol

Justin's album is hot!

Anyway, I can't believe you listened to all those albums. What kind of masochist are you? disbelief

this was all based on my observations and what I thought got the most annoying airplay on MTV and VH1! The only ones I heard was Kelis' and Pharrell's...

Any "worst" list without Diddy is Sh*#ty

I don't think Kelis, Justin and Gwen should have been in that list.

Pharrell was, average, at best.

The rest were garbage.

No, but it was just something I put together for the uninspired and unreal pop junk! Oh, and yeah, Diddy's Press Play was a crappy album too...

I won't stand for anybody insulting my musical hero, Paris Hilton!!!! hmph!

That girl has been through alot, and it comes through in her music. It's harrowing... powerful.... sheer emotion and passion. It's more a journey than an album. A remarkable experience. It truly moved me.

Long live Paris Hilton, the new Joni Mitchell!!!

add that damn B(S)'Day
from Beyonce
coming from a fan of hers
NO MORE RUSH ALBUMS!!!

2006 was a pretty GOOD
year for HIP HOP
as for the R&B/pop... eeeeeh

music has been so wack
& repeatative that I have
willingly succumbed to it
and I'm starting to like some of it
(i.e. that Paris Hilton album)

BTW, Kelis Was Here is
not as good as I wanted it to be
but it was still good
"I Don't Think So" is my shit!!!
if I was a DJ I would love to mix that one with
Gwen's "The Sweet Escape"

because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

Well, no offense, I don't think that's right...No, I doubt Brooke's album is gold, but it's unfair to give it a slam without a listen. Quite a few indie rock records are inspired shit too...they just slip under the radar.

i wouldn't call 3121 one of the worst albums of the year. compared to idlewild (which wasn't AWFUL, just mostly drab), i thought 3121 was freakin' brilliant. but i was certainly underwhelmed by it.

so what are the brilliant moments of 3121? maybe I should go back and listen for the 19th time or so. 3121 was my first major Prince disapointment on an album since I was a kid.

i don't think there are outstandingly brilliant moments on 3121, though relative to some other stuff from this year, i think 3121 is a superior album...not that it took much to be better than fergie or gwen.

go back and listen 2 the title track, black sweat, fury, the word, the dance, satisfied, and get on the bus and tell us if your prediction on 3121 has changed or not! wink

Fury - the firey SNL performance killed the rubbery guitar studio track for me. After SNL my perception of how fury should sound will never be the same. See Prince used to record live to help capture the fire and spontaneity of his live shows, why did he ever stop? He doesn't have to do it all the time but every now and then wouldn't hurt.

3121 - I like the title track, even when it was used for "I Wonder" and "Days Of Wild" give it a good listen, nothing we haven't heard before, but still pretty funky, I like it.

The Word - reminds me a little of Ani Difranco, just not as good. Hate the cheap sounding sax part, doesn't grab me at all, too polished for my quirky freeform taste in music. And so is Black Sweat, he did a better job with Emale in my opinion from Emancipation. And Incence and Candles sounds like it could have been done by Usher or any current artist we always complain about on the org.

The Dance - just not feelin' this version, I mean it's ok.

Satisfied a.ka. On The Couch, or "my take on Sly Stones version of Qeu Sera Sera", I like the Musicology one better don't need to hear it again.

Get On The Bus - Pretty funky, I like this and Lolita, but it's not enough to save the album.

but yeah I will listen again, I mean just one Prince album that I didn't like out of the millions released and unreleased, I mean that's not bad.

it's all really good stuff, but not great. it's prince by numbers - and not even necessarily in that delicious creature comfort way, like when you visit your parents and mom makes you that casserole you've loved since you were a kid. there was a real lack of focus with prince last year, which is really weird, since if you think about it, he had a really great year. usually it's ABOUT something, though. i thought 3121 was a testament to prince's whole amorphousness in 2006.

Ok, 3121 is no Rainbow Children nor Gold Experience, but its 10 times better than some that crappy stuff he released in the 90's on the NPG label, Musicology, and the sappy pop music that is released today! It an addictive album in my opinion...

my problem with 3121 is songs like Incence and Candles is just like some of the sappy pop music that has been released today.
