You got me all excited for nothing (nothing new to me)....Those songs have been there since the site went back up...something like two years ago! I think those were recording during her stay at Sony and most likely won't be on the new album, although I'm pretty sure she owns the writes to them (you know where it usually says the record company after the trademark on some songs on compiltions...for both "I Got Your Love" and "You're So Beautiufl", I noticed that it was courtsey of Donna herself (I forgot where I saw this, though). I'm almost certain she owns those songs free and clear, so they could appear on the new album but it sounds like she is going back into the studio to make something totally new.

Yeah, those songs are old. They were recorded between 1999-2003 when she was signed to Sony. The album was tentatively titled 'Angel'.Over 30 songs were recorded for the album, including:

You're So Beautiful
Adonai
Til' You Get It
Valley Of The Moon
I Got Your Love
Work It
Angel
Only Words
Tearin' Down The Berlin Wall
Rain On My Shoulders

Sony dropped her in 2003 and the album was never released.

All evidence points to her owning those songs...Wonder if there will ever be a release. The songs she previews are great, and as we heard, when she did release "I Got Your Love", the full song was pretty good!

Doesn't Chaka allegedly hate or at least hate on Donna. I remember it was probably posted her about how Donna tried to seperate herself from disco and she who she wasn't like Donna. I think she even said Donna couldn't sing well....how dare she!

Soulalive: I think all those songs sound promising, although I would agree "Adonai" maybe the best of the unheard tracks. Could be excellent.

Nice! Chaka is a bit overrated and Donna, very underrated. I would put them at about an even level, though. It's just that DOnna is talented and yet isn't a bitch over confident about it (although, maybe she was on somehting but she said somehting to the effect of God creating disco so she could sing it and become a star....wow!)....yet, we kind of love Chaka for her outbursts.

I never heard of any friction between Donna and Chaka. In fact, they performed onstage together in 1996 with Gloria Estefan at some VH1 Divas benefit thing.(Our very own Prince made a surprise appearance onstage, playing guitar). However,in 1982 when Donna was working with producer Quincy Jones,he allegedly told her that "Chaka Khan can sing rings around you!" but it was just a joke.He didn't feel that Donna was giving her all on a particular song,so this was his way of keeping her on her toes.

"Adonai" is wonderful! I hope she doesn't forget about these tracks entirely.Maybe they could be released sometime in the future.

No,Chaka is not overrated hmph! She has one of the most powerful voices in R&B.The only reason Donna is underrated is because of the style of music she did: disco. To many people,"disco" is still a bad word.Chaka is more respected because she did a style of music (soul/funk) that is more highly regarded than disco was.Yeah,I know....it's really unfair.

There was a follow-up article in Billboard where Donna said that she is considering covering a few Marvin Gaye songs for the new album.

I've heard Donna rave about CHaka but I read comments somewhere and DOnna got if not a slam at least some sharpnel for being a disco singer. She mentioned her by name and said I'm not a diso singer. Are you sure about the Divas LIve? I remember Donna being at the 2001 or so ...Never heard of one in 1996 but then again I got turned on to Donna around 1999, when the VH1 live album came out..And Quincy Jones is a prick!

No,Quincy Jones is not a prick lol He was just trying to keep Donna on her toes. She had major attitude when she was recording that album. She was pissed at David Geffen for rejecting her 2-LP 'I'm A Rainbow' set and then forcing her back into the studio to make an R&B album. Also, she was pregnant and the time,so she wasn't really in the mood to make an album.Quincy made that comment as a joke,so that Donna would get herself together and sing her ass off.

Yes,Donna performed onstage with Chaka and Gloria Estefan.Prince made a surprise appearance onstage. This was in 1996.I remember seeing pics in 'The Prince Family' newsletter.
