Emerson Lake and Palmer

Any fans?

I know how prog is a dirty word (i like how when rick wakeman said something like prog was the porn of the music industry. When you aksed for it in a store, you asked for it in a paper bag so knowone would see it LOL), but fucking hell, emerson was an amazing synth player.

I prefer Emerson Lake and Palmer, or as my dad still calls them "Emerson lake and pretentious (which is rich coming from a Floyd and ELO fan, not that ELO are prog) over Yes....

.... the the lyrics of John Anderson are mystical nonsense, and I have never cared for words in songs much anyway, so they are perfect for me LOL, so I do love Yes, but not quite as much as ELP. I don't consider pink floyd to be in the same camp as ELP, Yes, Genesis. They always had good words I thought. Genesis is a band I have yet to try (i own their "invincible touch" and "i cant dance" naturally of course).

Anyway,

"brain salad surgery" musta sounded a bit ahead of its time in the synth department. The track "karn evil 9" is awesome. Also, i love emerson's voice.

I get the feeling I might get into classical music in about a decade or 2.

This album is pretentious and then some. Emersons Piano concerto is gorgeous though. Iam no druming expert, but Carl Palmer is awesome at times, even in the group he was with in the late 80's (the power of 3, which was ELP without Emerson as lead singer)

I do own their 2 early 90's albums and like them alot too, but its not prog at all. Its more soft rock bordering on AOR. Still, the studio "pictures at an art exibition" is killer though.

Heres a video to Emerson Lake and Powell in the 80's. Powell was more than worthy a drummer to Palmer (powell from Rainbow no less)

The "emerson lake and powell" album is awesome, still proggy, but very 80's with the drums and synths.

Anyone into them? I don't think I can buy every ELP album (i own most Yes albums though), but they are very cool.

I don't like them, and I have a pretty high tolerance for 70's prog - the kind of music that makes most reasonable people want to vomit in disgust.

I do love this album cover though:

Yeah, i have yet to buy that album LOL. Contract filler apparantly, but Lake has always written romantic songs to be fair. One of them said the cover looks like a bee gee's record.

Do you like Yes? "Close to the edge" is awesome, but I really like the 80's Trevor Rabin era stuff aswell.
