You all have to see the reasoning for liking Mavin's.

At the time of this performance, he was just getting back into the public spotlight. He had been gone for awhile and for him, it was just good to be back in front of his people. Also, it was during this time, that he feared for his life, he was recieving a number of threats on his life. Even though he loved to perform, it took a lot for him to do this. He would get a lot of flack for doing this rendition of the song....ironically, he paved the way for other artist to sing it "their way". Before Marvin, people sang it in the tradition hymn style that it was written. Marvin opened the door, so to speak for Whitney's version.
