"Over and Over" by Shalamar (1983)---this song makes me sad

"Over and Over" was the final Shalamar hit that featured the classic line-up of Howard Hewitt,Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniels.By the time this song was released as a single in late 1983,Watley and Daniels had already left the group. That's why they don't even appear in the video:

It's a GREAT track...one of their best singles, but I get sad when I hear it....it was like the end of an era neutral Howard found replacements and made one more Shalamar album, but it was never the same after that.

I miss Shalamar!!

I agree, it's a great song, a nice classic mid-tempo groove, though it doesn't make me sad hearing it today. That may be in part that I'm probably one of the few who loved the revamped group's 1987 Circumstantial Evidence album. But you're right, the classic Hewett, Watley and Daniels lineup will always be by far Shalamar at its classic best.

I never listened to any of the stuff by the "new Shalamar".As far as I'm concerned, the group ended when Jody and Jeffrey left.Did you notice that Micki Free appears in the "Over and Over" video? Howard didn't waste no time in replacing Jeffrey.

Here's hoping that Howard,Jody and Jeffrey will put their differences aside someday and do a reunion pray

Jody is not having that hmph! To quote the Dixie Chicks: "She's not ready to make nice". I read somewhere that Howad and Jeffrey are willing to give it a shot, but she doesnt want to look back.
A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

That song is okay. Nice bass line. But it's not as good as classic Shalamar cuts like "Second Time Around" "Make That Move" "For The Lover In You" "Night To Remember" or even "Dead Give Away".

For myself, the one exception to that would be 'My Girl Loves Me', which always reminded me alot of The System's 'You Are In My System'. They both have the same feel.

Yeah, she's still pissed at Howard. She said that when she decided to go solo in 1983,he told her that she "would never make it.And even after I won the Grammy for Best New Artist in 1987,he didn't even call to congratulate me".

For his part,Howard wants to do a reunion. He appeared on one of our local radio stations a few years ago and was asked about a potential Shalamar reunion. He said that he and Jeffrey have actually done a few gigs together in Japan.Jody has been asked but she still refuses.Back in the day, there were alot of stories about Howard's ego and major disagreements in the studio.
