Hendrix Compilations Ques. Hopefully this Hendrix thread wont cause as much outrage with people as my last one did. Now, being as I am ACTUALLY A HENDRIX FAN!!!, I have been searching for a compilation of his with the best songs and retrospectrive of his carrear. I have seen ones that have included songs from Jimi's 'FIRST RAYS...' album, which have some of my favorites by him on there. But there has been a lingering problem for me with all the compliations of him that I have seen, and that is that the song 'MACHINE GUN' from Band Of Gypsies is never included. I really cannot see getting a Hendrix compilation that does not include this song.
There has only been one that I have seen which has the very best selection of material by him, but I am suspicious of it. Its called 'The Essential Jimi Hendrix:vol. 1&2' on 2 disks. This was made however back in '89 and I have heard that the releases of his material then, as produced by Alan Douglas, is not of a great sound quality and that they were even overdubbed by using various studio musicians! Does anyone know anything about this particular 2 disk set and if in fact that it was done to this set by Douglas? I would really like to know as this does seem to be the only Hendrix collection that includes all of his essential material recorded during his carrear. [Edited 1/13/07 21:57pm]

I think you are much better off getting into hendrix live footage on vhs and dvds....thats where u are going to get the "full" experience ! I always felt he's a master on record but surely an artist to be seen as well as heard..kinda like Prince.
