Sorry I'm really not seeing a connection.
I'm familiar with the "popular" Doors stuff though I know a lot more Smiths tunage and I can't really see it. Maybe they each were Spokesman for their generation.....naw I can't even get with you on that, really. sorry..... The Smiths had a thing about not using keyboards. The Doors made their sound with keyboards (namely organ) but didn't have a bass guitarist. | |

They both stood out as something a bit more 'real' than their contemporaries. They were considered antidotes even.
The Doors were a dark, gritty surreal sexual nightmare compared to the free love and 'give peace a chance' generation. They were dangerous. The Smiths had such a basic sound and image compared to the gender-bending, fun and fabulous synth pop and new wave of the day. | |

My thinking was that the Smiths are also very dark in their message/lyrics. They both have a mopey, cynical quality -- though the Doors are less ironic. | |
