Record sales at this time are typically low because everone is paying their Christmas bills. I don't know if they have ever been this low, but the worst sales figures of the year are usually the weeks after the holidays.

The industry is in so much trouble anyway.... People just don't buy full albums anymore...only the songs they want. I don't blame them considering how much crap they've tried to force down people's thoats.

I do have to say after seeing the movie 'dreamgirls' last night, I really
want to purchase that soundtrack now....the music in there for the most
part is amazingly good.

Well the first one isn't "shit music." I'm pleasantly surprised to see it's #1 though. As for the rest...

I'll try to be omptomstic here, and say maybe.. this a good thing... maybe the industry will start to realize they need to start dealing with real musicians again or they are all gona lose there jobs.

it's more than just that. the record indusrty is in a big transition. people aren't buying CDs. ringtones are sale like crazy but albums don't. Mp3's, it's crazy right now.

It's all very interesting to see how QUICK things have changed. Back in 2004, Rick Springfield released his Studio Album "Shock Denial Anger Acceptance", for the first 10 weeks of that CD's release it was averaging about 6500 units a week, and every week it fell short of getting to 200. NOW that 6500 total would get him a chart position between 130-150 on any given week. Times are changing fast folks.

Well there are actually 2 Good MUSIC releases this month and that would be John Mellencamp on the 23rd and Norah Jones on the 30th, though i doubt either will move alot of units, i just want solid albums from artists, im tired of all this nonsense with artists coming out. One new Artist Im actually interested in seeing is this Katharine Mcphee, probably the first AI person with good singing ability and that has written songs for her album, i was further impressed that her label bumped "PRoduced" tracks by Timbaland and Ryan Leslie, in favor of songs she actually wrote, maybe there is a little bit of hope.

Actually those two songs were scrapped and arent on the album, they were a give away to itunes and i think target or walmart, something like that, but they were the ones that Timbaland was involved with. The girl actually can sing, my problem is "production" if i see 6-8 trendy producers on a cd, im like NEXT...

They now are sending Over It to CHR/Pop and A/C. It's a really lame track, but hey I'm sure it will be huge because they will pay enough.

I agree but there again its all on the label on that point. The artist really has no control, especially at her stage, the label hires the producers,the songwriters,the promo people, everything is so calculated so it comes through as nothing more than boredom, and u really never know if someone actually has some talent or what they have to offer. Now with Mellencamp and Norah, there is no calculation going on, no producer, they are all creating their own vision, whether it sells or not, isnt really their problem, because creativity is their strongpoint.
