The Police To Reform This Year

The Police To Reform
by Paul Cashmere - January 2 2007

The Police may get back together this year for a tour to mark their 30th Anniversary.

No official announcement has been made by The Mirror reports that a reunion is on the cards.
This will be the first Police tour since the band broke up in Melbourne, Australia in 1984.
The Police are Sting on bass and vocals, Andy Summers on guitar and Stewart Copeland on drums.
Since the break-up Sting has had a successful solo career.
Copeland is involved with movie soundtracks but was sidelined for a miss-matched tenure with The Doors at one stage.
Andy Summers has concentrated on his jazz recordings.
An official announcement is expected later this month after UK dates are locked in, possibly for May and June.

God help us. I surely hope they don't get back together. They're the worst band of all time.

No they're not. I can think of about thirty others. Like Bros - who they definitely influenced (Ee-Yo!)

Great news for Police fans I suppose, but I can't see how Sting is going to manage to screech his way through 'Roxanne' after 20 years of singing mellow music for mums.
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

I love The Police, but sometimes it's better to let a sleepling dog lie. This has the potential to be dreadful.

i don't understand these bands that have been broken up for years and then tour under the guise of an "anniversary." maybe i'm wrong but i thought you only celebrate anniversaries when you're still together. i mean, i don't know any divorced couples who still celebrate the anniversary of when they got married.

folks celebrate the anniversary of films being released....politicos celebrate the anniversary of a bill or legislation passing...janet celebrated the anniversary of Control coming out by releasing an album in the same spirit of....oh wait, nevermind. pout

i don't think its weird.

i suppose. shrug

i guess i just equate a band celebrating its 30th anniversary with a couple celebrating their 30th anniversary. i mean, the police don't have a 30th anniversary since they broke up 20 years ago, lol.

lol no doubt there! the only reason i respected the sex pistols "reunion" tour was because they called it what it was...the filthy lucre tour. more bands need to be honest like that. lol

The Pistols toured again in 2002, calling it the Golden Jubilee tour. I saw them at Crystal Palace. Fucking awful.

they'd probably be honored you said that. lol even more honored if you gobbed one on them

This Police thing doesn't excite me too much, but Sting really needs something to liven him up.

if they tour, hopefully it will be only that and no new record. i don't think any of the members are hungry enough to make a record anywhere near as good as their past stuff.

Well i doubt this will happen, Sting has been pretty much against this idea for over a decade now, though they did jam on the Hall of Fame and at Stings wedding, i dont see this working well, due to clashing personalities. Though the best bands are the ones that dont get along "musically" and many times "socially", i just think Sting is really not willing to go down the nostalgia route. The money really doesnt matter unless they are doing it for charity, since Sting has tons of money, due to the fact that the Police were a very smart "business" band too, plus we cant forget that Sting raked in alot of royalites from the "I'll be missing you" sample/cover, which to this day i cant forgive him for, its not so much the sample, its the fact that it was used to pay tribute to a Drug dealer and Wife Beater.

Andy Summers must be 60 years old and + now I 'd like them to do a new experimental progressive pop album but I wonder if it's not too late.

Age is irrelevant.
I saw Jeff Beck recently (60+) and he's stayed in shape, kept his chops up and sounded better that the majority of the youngun Rock guitarists out there (Definitely played with more taste).

I don't have a problem with a band like The Police reforming for a number of reasons.

A) They could play in the first place.
B) They've got a stash of excellent material.

Hopefully they're not just doing it because Sting feels a bit guilty.

Btw, Sting proved he can still rock it when he feels like it.
Remember the dual guitar line up he used at Live 8.

Indeed - my top two albums of this year were made by men who are well into their sixties, and Donald Fagen's gotta be pushing (or past, perhaps?) sixty as well.

Absolutely - they've all still got their chops, and could put on a very good show. I'd certainly rather see a Police gig than watch Sting march though his (I think, anyway) rather bland solo material.

THAT'S what I saw Sting on recently! The Live 8 thing. And he played only Police tunes (at least that's the only thing they showed on the DVD.) I'm a HUGE Police and Sting fan, but I hope this doesn't happen because even though they're all fantastic together and individually, it DOES have the potential to be like Michael Jordan's comeback. Besides, I thought they had a hard time being in a room together without wanting to kill each other.

Notorious BIG MAC wasn't a drug dealer. That was all bullshit. In the Biggie & Tupac documerntary both his mother and a few of his friends said that he made all that stuff up about selling crack to suit his BIG persona. Seeing his mother - an upstanding Jamaican woman - I completely believe it. He did beat women up though.

Sting played exactly the same set at Live 8 as he did at Live Aid, to - in his words - highlight the fact that the issues behind the first concert had neither changed nor been addressed at the time of the second.

Dude please stop. Biggie was a drug dealer. He came from a good home and decided to go out into the streets and sell drugs. His mom as talked about this and he was a wife beater.

You defend a dope dealer and rank on a great band like the Police WTF
