i hope he does something dark with this one, maybe a little aggro with really indignant lyrics. you know, kind of like he did on the pretty fragile spiral machine album.

What was the deal with him recording 'The Downward Spiral' album in the famous house where The Manson Murders took place? I mean did he do it to try and get some kind of spooky element and ambience onto the album, was it all just a simple publicity stunt to try and get enough hype going on for the release of the album to generate sales, was he obssesed with the whole murder case thing like so many others such as Rob Zombie are, or was there an even more bizzare and off the wall reason for it all? There just had to be some kind of reasoning and motive behind Reznor's decision to record there in that house.

In early 2006, Reznor stated on The Spiral that the new record marked a "shift in direction" and "doesn't sound like With Teeth".[2] Subsequent tour merchandise featured overt references to the United States Military, which "reflects future directions" according to Reznor.[2] "Year Zero" may also refer to a political notion.

Fifteen original tracks were considered for inclusion on the album, which Reznor described as "Highly conceptual. Quite noisy. Fucking cool."[4] He further wrote that "usually when I finish a record, I have to go into battle with the people whose job is to figure out how to sell the record. The only time that didn't happen was 'With Teeth'. This time, however, I'm expecting an epic struggle. This is not a particularly friendly record and it certainly doesn't sound like anything else out there right now."[5]

Reznor's concept for the album is "part of a bigger picture of a number of things [he is] working on. Essentially [he] wrote the soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist."[6] Hank Shocklee's production team The Bomb Squad was mentioned as a source of inspiration, especially its innovative construction of layered samples and loops.[2]

In Rolling Stone, Trent Reznor said "A big inspiration sonically would be early Public Enemy records - a collage-of-sound type of thing." [7]

yes Thomas Jefferson said the people should revolt if it doesn't serve the people.

but i was more along of the lines of how the New American Century and few other NeoCon groups have changed the country for the worst.

I believed I assumed correctly what U were referring too....to a degree...not to the specifics of names of groups. But I agree with U. NeoCons have hijacked the country. They used the republican party to do it.

I think Trent's idea is already working. Look....we're discussing this. That could be all of what an artist like him wants. Talk begets change.

The Beside You In Time DVD comes out this month also. I worked on some post production on this and it is an amazing concert DVD from his last US tour in 2005-2006.

Long time NIN fans will not be disappointed - He's including "Somewhat Damaged" and a few other choice songs that he rarely performs in concert. Oh, and it's being released in HD and Blu-ray.

NIN's Year Zero "Not A Hip-Hop Record"
January 18, 2007

Trent Reznor
As Trent Reznor puts the finishing touches on the upcoming Nine Inch Nails album, Year Zero, which is due in April, he took to his fan club Web site, The Spiral, to clear up some rumors about the CD. "Let me clear a few things up so some of you don't kill yourselves (or maybe you now will)," wrote Reznor. "This is not a f**king hip hop record, for f**k's sake. I imagine my referring to old Public Enemy records as an influence and the fact I'm working with [Rapper] Saul [Williams] sparked that. To clarify what I meant by being influenced by Public Enemy: Hank Shocklee's 'Bomb Squad' had a unique and highly influential way of constructing tracks — layers of samples and loops that combined together to form something chaotic and new. Do not expect Flavor Flav to appear here."

Reznor continued, "As far as the sound and content of my new record, you'll see and hear soon enough. I am certain some of you will HATE it. I am also certain some of you will find it the best thing I've ever done. It is different in a number of ways and it is who I am now. I am creating right now and I do not care what the record label or marketing people think about what I'm doing. I also do not care what the public think about what I'm doing. I certainly appreciate your patronage — and I HOPE you will get and enjoy what I'm working on, but I will not patronize you or pander to what you want. I assure you I am pouring every ounce of my life, heart and soul into this and it will be the best work I am capable of — and that's all I can do."

so.. a new track My Violent Heart has leaked. its real and official. very nice.. almost exactly how trent explained the album..

but here is the interesting part.. word on how it was leaked was this "they found that on a flashdrive in a bathroom in lisbon portugal"

thats the story floating around.. which sounds of rubbish to me

but look what happened to the tracklisting.. http://yearzero.nin.com/

there is a blip of color that has appeared next to the track.. which wasn't there until its leaked..

could trent be leakin it?
