Has anyone heard who's going to be on Soul Train this weekend? I was wondering if it's still Al Green from the 1970s. Andy is a four letter word.

TV Guide says:
Al Green does "Living for You" and "Jesus Is Waiting." Other guests include the Impressions, who sing "If It's in You to Do Wrong."

The week after sounds good:
Blue Magic, Major Harris and Sister Sledge are the guests. Songs include "Never Get Over You," "Love Has Found Its Way to Me," "Sideshow" (Blue Magic); and "Love Won't Let Me Wait" (Major Harris).

The one I caught was straight from `86, which wasn't exactly classic enough.
They danced to "Papa Don't Preach", "Ain't Nothing Goin' On But The Rent", and "Dancing On The Ceiling".

I kept expecting any minute to hear a song from a certain little goodie two shoes. I had my hand on the pause button the whole hour because I was gonna cut that shit out. That white chick with the oversized shirt and feathered hair was awfully entertaining.

Those were as stiff as a dick in a whore house. The show was definately trying to go for mass appeal. I can remember when there was strictly the Asian girl, and she could jam. The Al Green performances were incredible. If I weren't already a huge fan, I'd be a new fan after seeing him doing "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)". I loved it. Definitely the kind of thing you don't see on Soul Train nowadays. Which leads me to wonder if these vintage shows could somehow lead to a more permanent thing (assuming the broadcasts of old shows is temporary). Current artists would certainly protest since that would be one less (classic) venue for them to get television exposure, but what do you guys think of the chances of the older shows being syndicated as a regular, ongoing thing in their own right?

I would love to see the old episodes on an ongoing basis. There are so many years that they could air them on a daily basis. As for the new episodes of "Soul Train", I would love to see the show be cancelled because it has become a disgrace to the show's good name and has been for years. "Soul Train" should have called it quits around the same time or shortly after "American Bandstand" called it quits. At least Dick Clark went out with some dignitity before things started getting bad. Well, at least Don Cornelius got the hell off of the show before it was too bad. Andy is a four letter word.

Last Saturday was great but the artists performed too many songs. As long as I can remember, the artists always performed two songs unless it was a tribute show. I wanted to see more of the dancers and hear more of the songs that were popular during that time. I absolutely loved the Soul Train Line when they were coming down to "Jungle Boogie" by Kool and the Gang. Andy is a four letter word.

I would love to see the show come back on in the daytime instead of in the middle of the night.
so what did sister sledge sing? I want to see the performance they did on the midnight special. I did see the james ingram one. I hope they stick to more 70's shows. nipsy

I know what you mean concerning the number of performances and not seeing enough of the dancers on this one, but in the case of Al Green, I really couldn't complain. That he not only sang live, but really put on a show, I wouldn't have minded seeing a whole hour of Al (guess I'm a huge fan). I agree with you though, if there were no more new shows and they just focused on rebroadcasting these classics, I'd be fine with that.

Yeah, That One'll be cool; though according to TV Guide.com, the next one after will be early 80's, and the one after that.....ehh, kinda sliding into mid-80's : This coming Saturday: Blue Magic, Major Harris and Sister Sledge The next Saturday: The Sugarhill Gang ("Eighth Wonder") and Patrice Rushen. Saturday after that: Pebbles, Jermaine Stewart and the Bus Boys. ... [Edited 1/8/07 11:09am] " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

Another late 1980s one. I'll do it just like I did with the 1986 episode. I'll record it, but if it's too poppish and depressing, I'll record over it. Those are some years I'd like to forget. Andy is a four letter word.

It's on at 1:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on WGN if you have cable. I've noticed that our local channel that usually shows it on Sunday nights at 11:30 p.m. hasn't been showing it since the old episodes have been airing....which is rediculous. I think after years of "Soul Train" being bullshit, that people in my area are tired of the show because since the 1990s, it has moved to every single local channel we have at different times on Saturdays. For the the last 3 or 4 years, it moved to Sunday nights....which surely can't be good. With "Soul Train" airing it's old episodes for several weeks nationwide, maybe that's a good sign that the new episodes aren't doing well nationwide.....I hope. Andy is a four letter word.
