Yeah they were fun. They definitely wrote those lyrics after eating some good hash brownies, though.

They were a fun band. I used to like this song when it was first out, but now it's a commercial jingle for Wick's Furniture. That one and Brick House. "It's a Wicks....hooooouse!"

Yeah, that was pretty bad. That may not be their own doing it seems. Came across this on Wikipedia (so it may or may not be true):

"Whip It" has been used in several commercials, for products such as Pringles, Twix, Gateway Computers, and most recently Swiffer cloths. Due to the nature of Devo's contract with Warner Brothers, they do not own the rights to the original recording of "Whip It". Devo often re-records their songs for use in advertising, and for the Swiffer ad, the band also agreed to change the lyrics as well. One example of the changes is the line "You must whip it" which was replaced by "You need Swiffer."

They actually rerecorded the song to help sell the product, so it's their own doing. lol

Well, given that they wouldn't have gotten anything out of the deal otherwise, I can't say I blame them.

"You need Swiffer"

This song was also used to memory-destroying effect in that Kate Hudson vehicle "Raising Helen".

And, as usual, I'll be the one to come on here and say that if I had to pick a band I really hate, it would be Roxette. lol

It must seem like I just post to be contrary to MikeMatronik all the time, but damn, we must just have polar opposite taste in music. lol

They were a teenage favorite of mine. The only song of theirs I seem to still like is, Listen to Your Heart. And, yes, I realize it's total cheese.

They were good songwriters. A very good sense of melody. Some great pop songs to be sure.

I liked The Look until a friend pointed out to me that when she hears the song, bubble gum juice starts flowing out of the radio. After that comment, I never liked them again. My dislike was further fueled by their subsequent horrid releases.

That song is horrible, and this is coming from the dude with the corniest tastes on here

I can see why minnig doesn't like 'em. Very programmed, icky synth riffs etc...

My fav song is one they did for the "super mario" soundtrack called "almost unreal". That came at the tail end of their fame I guess. That sorta music went out of style very quickly. Their albums are pretty average.

"It must of been love" would be alright but I hear and see the video all the damn time.

Wait...you see any sorta difference between It Must Have Been Love and Listen to Your Heart? You think one is corny but not the other? lol And for some reason, I can't imagine something on the soundtrack for a Nintendo game not being corny.

"it must of been love" isn't half as overblown as "listen to your heart". "Listen to your heart" is a someone immitating Diane Warren, badly. If you like overblown AOR, go for Chicago.

Back when it came out, "U Got The Look" had previously dropped, and I thought then that it was a ripoff. But I haven't heard the song in ages.
