ok, so i have wondered what all the hype about this guy is. then i realized that all the hype i've heard for it has been on this website. lol finally, i listened to the record and understood why nobody else i know is talking about him and everyone here is: he's got some prince-like sounds.

not enough to save him, though. the first track is cool but that's the only one that interested me or held my attention. one, two minutes into every other track i was skipping to the next one. lots of style but very little substance. if this guy has any prince-like sounds they have more in common with a less capable side project as opposed to prince himself.

he's got a god voice but its not much different from justin timberlake. and the latter has better beats on his music. the ballads from both performers sound canned and, personally, i think thicke lacks any sensuality when singing about it.

i can see where you coming from as you've only heard his sophomore LP, which happens 2 be heavily Marvin/Prince inspired,, BUT

if you want the real deal check out his crazy debut, It's way more varied & a 1000 times better (even though i still dig the new LP):

FWIW, I was a little disappointed when I first heard the album, but it quickly grew on me. While the Timberlake comparison may be apt, there is absolutely nothing on Robin's album as bad as "Chop Me Up" or "SexyBack."
