Marvin Gaye's I Want You and I want you to want me to...
just like I want you.. Incredibly sexy song, awesome rythmn guitar, this is the reason why RnB needs the guitar back into it. At this point in history, we have a choice to make

"I Want You" is in my top 10 songs of all time. That track, those vocals, those exquisite harmonies... it's perfect!
The album is also great. "Soon I'll Be Loving You Again" might be the sexiest song ever recorded. [Edited 1/7/07 5:33am] "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

The acapella version & bass & congas may be the sexiest shit EVER

For some reason, I couldn't fully get into that album. I prefer "Here, My Dear", its more personal than "I Want You".

I like Here, My Dear a lot, but I'll take I Want You any day. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

This is one of my favorite tracks from the master. It shows pain, love and a wanting that only Marvin and Prince display. The only other version of this song that comes close to Marvin's, is the one by Robert Palmer. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

That album is pure sex. | |

No one other than Prince has come anywhere close to fucking with Marvin when it comes to putting "sexy" in music!
Love the song! Love the album! And will always love me some Marvin Gaye!! [Edited 1/7/07 11:37am]

I agree with you completely. (Yup, I'm shocked too). Sublime though it is, Marvin didn't write most of I Want You. It was Leon Ware's work. Check out "Musical Massage", which came out in the same year, and you'll hear a very similar album. The deluxe version of In Our Lifetime (subtitled The Final Motown Sessions) is due out later this year. Quite a lot of outtakes and alternate versions from the two scrapped/rejected versions of the album. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Check out "Musical Massage", which came out in the same year, and you'll hear a very similar album. That's part of the reason I think it's so spectacular. Marvin wrote a lot of great music, but that voice took other people's songs and gave them something extra -- something that was simultaneously raw and smooth, confident and vulnerable, commanding and pleading, and always sexy. The man could sing like no other. The deluxe version of In Our Lifetime (subtitled The Final Motown Sessions) is due out later this year. Quite a lot of outtakes and alternate versions from the two scrapped/rejected versions of the album.

[Edited 1/7/07 15:31pm] That was one of the WORST covers ever,,,,a bland singing on a fluffy production. Her and Alicia's "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" are battling for the same position.

I love the song but I don't think the album is one of Marvin's best works. The previous album 'Let's Get It On' is superior...his absolute masterpiece.

Great news,,,lets hope they include the infamous "Sanctified Pussy " THAT won't happen .... at least not just yet, because Sanctified Pussy was recorded when Marvin was under contract to CBS not Motown, so they have the rights to that. I thought they were going to release it with the expanded Midnight Love, but they didn't. Instead they included the priceless acapella version of "Sexual Healing" with its final line - "Please don't procrastinate/Or I might have to masturbate" - clearly enunciated. Anyway, Sanctified Pussy's one of the funniest songs ever written - "I'm saving mine for Jesus!" There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. eh, different strokes...I Want You is my Favorite Marvin Gaye album...while I can't argue that it's better than What's Goin On, Let's Get It On or Here, my Dear, it Is my Favorite...for some reason I Want You just hits me in a way that the others don't....
