Alex Baby's "Innocent" vs The Time's "Get It Up"

Two of my favorite slices of Minneapolis funk (though I prefer the full 10 minute album version of Innocent to this single version). They sound like different takes on the same song, both smokin'.

Alexander O'Neal - Innocent

On which album is Innocent ? I´ve always wondered about this because I have the first three of his albums and Innocent is only part of a medley on the first album, so I thought that it was only released as a 12 " single....so, is the ten minute version probably on a different version of the first album ?

the 10-minute version is on the 12" single version, IIRC (i used to have a copy of it).

Innocent was the first single from his first album. It debuted on the chart in February 85. The B-side was a tune by the name of Are You The One? (I've not heard it).

Aaah, Ok, thanks to both of you. That´s what I was thinking because it´s only part of a medley on the album, and I remember it as a huge club hit way back in the day so I thought there must be a single or something.

I love that song , I´m addicted to the Minneapolis Funk since day one but I had never seen the video to Innocent before.

Great song but sometimes it´s better not to see the videos twentysomething years later.... lol ..a lot of them are unintentionally funny.

Two great songs, but I'm picking "Get It Up." My Alex jam of choice is "Criticize." dancing jig

Get It Up wins out over Innocent for me. It's cooler, darker, a little more subdued. Alex wouldn'tve worked with The Time. If You Were Here Tonight is a better ballad than Morris ever did though.

Are You The One? is a great song,Monte Moir wrote that tunefor Alex. It 's also the B-side of Alex's "WHAT'S MISSING".

Anywho, my vote for video goes to Innocent but I love the song Get It Up more. The Time had ZERO stage presence back then.
