http://www.lasvegasweekly...index.html You justed wanted to mention the Boss Hendrix, Pete, Eddie, Prince, Page, Zappa, Clapton, Richards and Carlos are some of the guitar names you'll throw around. Elvis, Lennon, Roy, Elvis, Freddie and Fogerty are some of the singer names. Dylan, Prince, Elvis, Glimmer Twins and Beck are some of your great songwriters. (There are no women on the list, because we're talking about "rock snobs," which is a boy's club. Yeah, lots of women should be on that list, but they're not. Rock snobs, right now in this culture, are heterosexual men loving other men.) boy's club? It could be a little tighter (and he seems to be somewhat of a Springsteen nostalgist - I'm a post-USA guy), but otherwise an excellent piece.

I'll add that to my descriptions above: someone who, (and there are many here ) admits to loving 70s mellow gold and proudly encourages the listening of the likes of: The Carpenters, John Denver, 10cc , Billy Joel, Xanadu soundtrack, Neil Diamond, etc. Take Wolfman Billy Joel out of there and that's me! And like clockwork, Fool If You Think It's Over by Chris Rea just started on my player. I actually thought specifically of you when I typed up his name to see if you'd catch it. Well done. Music Snobs dress the part ♫ This doesn't necessarily mean wearing a band shirt, but if you do it has to be an obscure band. Those Offspring, Tool, and Metallica shirts you can easily find at any Virgin Megastore do not count; in fact they only hurt your snob status. Your ultra-rare John Cale shirt will either have to be found by fluke at a thrift store or made by you via an iron-on label. You don't have to wear a band shirt though because there is an alternative: dress like your favourite artist. The most popular and time-tested looks are the Elvis Costello (tight clothes, thick-rimmed glasses, receding hairline), the Neil Young (ragged/dirty clothes, rats nest hair, whiny voice), or the Ani Difranco (beads, beads, beads). So now you can walk the music geek walk but can you talk the music geek talk? Let's examine rule #3: Nobody should ever wear an Offspring shirt. But I'll bet in about 10-12 years kids will be buying them because it will be cool to pretend you like them, in a cheesy, poser sort of way. I've noticed that all the guys are dressing exactly like Bob Dylan these days: The slim, tapered pants, sunglasses, frizzy hair, etc. A couple of years ago, all the kids looked like The Ramones, and now it's Bob. My goal for 2007 is to gain entry into MisShapes on Saturday night.
If I can do THAT, then I'm guaranteed to pass into hipsterdom. Every celeb has ran thru that club: Madonna, Kelis, The Killers, Bloc Party, Annie... I WISH I was there when Stuart Price was spinning during the Confessions of a Dancefloor blitz the weekend of Oct. 20, 2005. My ass was in New Jersey (which takes away from my potential hipster points). Now it's mostly a stand and model to spot celebs, but if you can GET IN you're still HIP.

And I adore Pulp, as you might already know, but I think that just makes me a nerd. There is a fine line. Someone needs to sit me down and show me how to enjoy Tim McGraw and Jay-Z. Oh, and also to enjoy their music. i think there's good country and crap country/good hip hop and bad hip hop, just like there's good and crap with every genre of music. of course, "good" and "crap" are relative to the listener's taste. but speaking from my own tastes, it's really sad to know people who'll never give great music like johnny cash or public enemy a chance because "ALL country and ALL rap is horrible". there's good shit in every musical genre. it's just a matter of enjoying music enough to be open to it all. I second that, Johnny Cash & Public Enemy are great. [Edited 1/9/07 2:34am]
