The Evolution of Robin Thicke which was produced by Robin Thicke. This dude took lessons from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. He's very good and sort of puts me in a Prince frame of mind. His music is soothing and soulful, He writes and arranges every track except Wanna love you girl. The result is nothing short of great.

I'm not qualified enough to discuss album production. I know nothing about it. I know when something sounds crappy and when something doesn't though. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

thesexofit said: Arif produced the bee gee's "E.S.P" album. Bee Gee's fan cloudbuster doesn't like that album much, but I love it. Arif, along with the boys, wanted the most advanced sound technically I imagine. Because of the harsh, cold sound, it has dated badly but still has some wonderful songs like "angela" "e.s.p" and the UK no 1 "you win again". "This is your life" is the shit aswell. I love the production on that album bigtime.
Arif was a marvel, no question. And I have a thing against a lot of 80s production in general, not just E.S.P. I don't think it's a dreadful album. The sound is fine for what it is, it's just not a sound I really go for. But yeah, their production work has always been good, whether working alone or with others.

TRC was brilliantly produced. A shame, then, that I think the material sucks.

damosuzuki said: Exile on Main Street is a terribly produced album. Even in remastered form it's so darn low. I remember Mick Jagger saying he wasn't happy with the finished product. It's the main reason i don't pull that album out, the whole thing merges into one mush. Now Goats Head Soup that's a well produced stones album.

Janet Jackson :: Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989) This is the best produced album I've ever heard. I'm still knocked out by the production on it and how every track hits. Everything works on this album. It's a pop masterpiece.

I guess I can see why you don't like his stuff, alot feel that way too. But I'm glad that she got the guts to take a different path as opposed to the stuff she did with Assy and Filmon. She tuned it down, abit. Kinda jazzy, if you well. But the FRESHNESS is always there, you can bet that she'll come up with something different than the previous. Thing is, what I like about Madame Fairouz is, she keeps it SIMPLE, unlike the contemporary Arabic music that is SO busy, over-produced and non-organic. And Ziad still maintained that simplicity and organic element, which is the reason why he doesn't do wrong in my book. Also the fact, that he doesn't try to imitate his father and bring something different, makes me respect him even more.

Why is that funny? Prince is a fantastic producer. Real talk I'll pick the WEAKEST example here; "For You" if that isn't a well produced record(a DAMN good debut @ that, mind you), I don't know what is. [Edited 1/6/07 16:50pm]

Just about anything Steely Dan does is well-produced, especially Aja.
Poe's "Hello" is very, very impressive to me...youknow, the girl that did "Angry Johnny"? The two major Portishead cds are freakin' awesome, too.
