Flying Burrito Brothers – Wild Horses. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s better than the Stones’, but I figure it’s just as good and it’s not nearly as worn out with me.

I love Bob’s originals, The Byrds’ covers of Mr. Tambourine Man and My Back Pages are immortal.

Actually, maybe it isn't better than the original, but I still think she does a damn good job with the song. Cyndi more than holds her own there.

Don't get me wrong; it's a great cover by an artist known for great covers. But the original... mushy

Hey, R.Kelly and Jodeci killed it! Stevie's version is great, but Jodeci took it to another level in my opinion.

Correction: Boyz II Men - Say Goodbye 2 Yesterday.

biggrin I know, now she has me second guessing myself. Actually, I wasn't quite sure which version I preferred, but Cyndi was the first version I was familiar with. So I think that has some sort of bearing on how I judge the song.

Although I will say that I pick Madonna's "I Want You" over Marvin's. shrug Shoot me.

don't worry, the board is gonna kill me 4 admiting that R.Kelly's version of Sadie is superior...people just focus on his child porn charges and forget that the boy can sing.

mad I might just take you up on that! lol I'd rather listen to Marvin cover "Like a Virgin," "Justify My Love," "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough," and "She Bop."

BTW, I'm a guy. Aaliyah's my avatar because she was gorgeous.

So sexy. Especially the way her voice and Massive Attack's beats mesh. And the video... drool

Since this one just came up randomly on my media player, I'll add it to my list:

I Still Believe - Mariah Carey. Brenda's voice is all kinds of flat lol

OTOH, I can't stand that remake. It's probably because the original is one of my very favorite songs, but that is one of the lowest Madonna moments for me (although nothing is worse than "American Pie").

lol Don't tell me you like "American Pie"!? I already hated the original, but Madonna had to go and make it worse. disbelief

As far as sexiness goes, Marvin's "I Want You" is already overflowing with it.

No, not that. Although I don't mind "American Pie".

I can understand preferring the original of "I Want You", but to consider it one of her worst moments? eek

Well, there are two major problems I have with it:
1. At the risk of going all vainandy, why the hell is it so slow? I liked the contrast between the melancholy sound/lyrics and the fairly quick tempo. Madonna's version drags to the point of being boring.

2. Even worse, there aren't any harmonies! That's my favorite part of the song. Marvin's layered harmonies are exquisite; I wouldn't expect Madonna to use her own voice, but some backup singers would've helped with the "wall of sound" effect. It feels empty and lifeless without it (to me).

I revisit it every blue moon hoping to like it more, but it never grabs me. It's more disappointing than her other lackluster songs, because I really do love the song itself. shrug

Do you just hate Madonna in general? Cuz that would explain a lot.
