I Was Excited About Getting VH1 Soul...

...until I read the description on their Web site:

VH1 Soul brings you 24 hours of the hottest soul and R&B hits from today and all of the 90's featuring core artists like Mary J. Blige, Usher, Brandy and D'Angelo.

Seriously? A soul channel that only goes as far back as the 90s? confused Does anyone have this channel? Our area just switched to Comcast and we'll have this in Feb.

We just got The Tube a few weeks ago, then I turned it on yesterday and it now all that's there is a message stating that the hosting station yanked it off the air.

it goes back farther than the 90's. I just saw the "Party All the Time" video, "My House" by Mary Jane girls, and "Two Occasions" by "The Deele" in the past few days.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Locally, not nationally. Unless you live in the Mpls/St. Paul area you have nothing to worry about.

I've just had the channel for two weeks but have seen tons of eighties stuff that I didn't know existed:

Stacy lattisaw "Every drip drop of your love?"

Shalamar "Dancin' in the sheets"

Five Star "All Fall Down"

Tons of old New Edition Videos

So you can safely tune in. The artists in heavy rotation now are Mary J, Robin Thicke, Lyfe and that Beyonce.

We don't have that channel here, and from the description of it, they can keep that shit. Hell, it looks like they only play that boring shit that came from the influence after Shitney Houston ruined things.

What I wish we had here (on basic cable) is VH1 Classic. It's available here on a higher priced cable package but, if I'm not mistaken, a friend of mine has it and said they had started playing other shit on the channel such as reality shows, etc. Once that shit takes it over, it won't be worth a damn either.

If BET was even halfway worth a damn, they would come up with a BET Classic channel. I don't know if it would be any good though because whenever they do play old videos on BET, they are usually shit from after 1985. Hell, play the videos and television appearances of R&B artists from the 1970s and early 1980s (stopping at 1984). Also, "Soul Train" episodes from that era, on a daily basis would be great too. These folks just don't know what's good because they've lived so many years with bullshit.

I've noticed that BET Jazz seems to serve this purpose. Though it does have its share of inane crap (My Model Looks Better Than Your Model, anyone?), I've caught some interesting vintage bits on there ever now and again.

However, I don't think it's intentional, I think BET just finds it cheaper to fill the less profitable secondary channel with older bits of programming.
Everything old is new again...

I saw bits and pieces of a Frankie Beverly and Maze concert on BET Jazz last weekend. I've seen them show some classic episodes of "Video Soul" with Donnie Simpson but they have all been from the early 1990s.....which were boring as hell. I want some early 1980s R&B videos and the only stuff anyone (on all the channels) ever plays is the worn out stuff like Michael Jackson.

What channel, VH1 Soul??? I haven't seen it, unless you mean Manhattan as opposed to Brooklyn or Queens.

Love VH1 soul!!! I watch it all the time and it has a great mix of current music, 80's and 90's stuff. Don't let the hype scare you. there is all kinds of vids that I never saw before from the 80's, and stuff you have not seen in ages. Watch it!!

I tend to turn to VH1 Soul when nothing else is on. Especially love it when they go back to the 80s and 90s. This morning I woke up to "Keep On Walkin" by CeCe Peniston and "Smooth Operator" by Sade.

It's a pretty sweet channel. I love it!
