No, no! Get Dummy first! It's their first and best album. The live set is very good, too but Dummy is a masterpiece. One of my faves from that decade.

You can skip the Sour Times EP if you see it. nod It's just some not-really remixes. shrug

I suggest you get them in order of release

and, actually, get the DVD of the live show instead:

it has the same live show as the cd (IT IS COOL TO SEE THEM PERFORM), plus some of their music videos too.

I'd start with Dummy too.....but I've grown to like their self titled one more. They only have three albums.....four if you include the bootleg of remixes....so I'd just get all of their albums. I wish they'd hurry up with another album. I've been hearing for years that they were working on another album. Portishead is in my top 5 of favorite artists of all time.

I'm still dying to hear "Western Eyes" & "Biscuit" live. They should've included more songs on their live album . I like "Half Past Closing", but I really wished it would've been replaced with "Western Eyes" or "Biscuit" don't ever fall in love again....it's all over now How cheery lol

For me it became my instant favorite.....could be because I had worn "Dummy" out before getting the chance to hear their self titled one. I swear "Humming" has one of the best intros ever. smile

I think there is only one song of theirs that I know, but I love it. Can´t even remember its name...

Could be "Only You" too. I think they used it in a Levi's commercial back then.

Portishead is 3rd only to Prince and Sade for babymaking music.

I like the live DVD alot just b/c of how my surround sound works well with it, but there wasn't much diversion from the studio tracks other than Sour Times when it came down to it.

And that is one reason it is interesting to WATCH THE DVD versus listen to it on cd.
