My top 10 most charismatic Rock Stars.

Prince has great charisma but how does he fare with the rest? Here's my picks.
1. Elvis Aron Presley--Many people speak of how they could feel him before they saw him. The most magnetic rocker and one of the most charismatic men ever.
2. The Beatles--Not fair I know, they had to combine 4 personalities to rank this high.
3. Little Richard--It wasn't only the makeup and wild hair. he had charisma in spades.
4. Mick Jagger--Riveting to watch, a mix of masculine and feminine, even though he could barely dance, something about him made you want to watch.
5. Michael Jackson--I know he's a joke today but who cannot honestly say that in his prime he had the magic. Even today he can't travel anywhere without a ruckus.
6. Tina Turner--The only woman who had enough masculinity to match these men and from whom Mick stole his stage act.
7. Jimi Hendrix--In his own quiet way, he was charismatic offstage, but once he strapped on that guitar he commanded the room.
8. Prince--Had it since his first appearance on Bandstand, the mystery, the aloofness, the hint of evil even. In some ways, more otherworldly and strange than anyone else on the list.
9. Bruce Springsteen--Had a folksy type of charisma, not off putting, like someone you could sit down and have a drink with.
10. Bob Dylan--The whole poet thing, the talent, the oddly intriguing voice.
Lists are arbitrary, depending on my mood I would move Prince all the way up to 2 but I don't ever see anyone matching the electricity Elvis could generate.

I don't think Bob Dylan or Little Richard fit the "charisma" title. In fact, I don't think Michael Jackson fits either, unless you're talking about young Michael.

The definition of charismatic is "a spiritual power or personal quality that gives an individual influence or authority over large numbers of people." So technically, any celebrity would have charisma.

Little Richard definitely, go back and see the black and whites, now Dylan is a bit harder to say this about. In fact i probably could stand to put James in their somewhere. But yes, Dylan had charisma, he had to because with that voice and those looks he wouldn't have made it.

what about Michael Hutchence and/or TTD.
Are we using charismatic and stage presence interchangeably?
The young Michael was more, something than his older self. hmmm was it an abandon due to not being so self-aware or self-important? hmmm.

Little Richard definitely had it. So did Bon Scott and (whether you like him or not) David Lee Roth.

I agree with all of them except the last 2 (and possibly Jimi). But Dylan and Springsteen are the antithesis of charisma. they're the anti-charisma. but that's kind of their thing. they're so dull and lifeless personality-wise that you can't help but be charmed.

I'm a huge fan of TTD, but both these guys are not quite in the leagues i'm thinking of. There are lots of people with charisma in music but the ones who are legends are the ones i'm thinking of.

Yeah, you're right, I considered that before I listed them. But you know I kind of feel that they wouldn't be where they are without having it in some kind of way.

And did everyone already forget about James Brown already? Or did I miss it? confuse He sort of personifies that term actually to me. nod People like Prince and MJ can't even be mentioned if we don't put James in there first.

Hell, I consider John Coltrane a rock star and the John Coltrane Quartet the greatest rock band ever. But I digress.

Most of my top 10 has already been mentioned, but Sly Stone was awfully charismatic. In his own way, Kurt Cobain was, too.

And Chuck Berry and George Clinton? Anyone?

Sting during the Police era?

(not on my list) but would Bono or Stipe merit any consideration?

I wouldn't even put James in the top 10. He Just died so people are making him out to be greater than he was. He could not fill huge venues anymore and he was not selling albums anymore before he died. Now all of sudden people are saying all sorts of stuff. He was great in his day. But that was a long time ago.

Most charsimatic of all time?

I would have to say Elvis Presley, followed by the Beatles. No one made the masses go crazy like them. And they have sold the most albums out of any acts in the world.

Others in the top 10..

Michael Jackson (in his prime, not the joke he is now)
Bruce Springsteen
Prince
Jimi Hendrix
Bob Dylan
Jim Morrison
Mick Jagger

I'm not a huge U2 fan, but I think Bono has a lot of charisma.

Also

Jerry Lee Lewis
Bruce Springsteen (if you see him live)
Marvin Gaye

even David Lee Roth & Eddie Van Halen come to mind

Can only really claim I'm a fan of Marvin, but I can't quibble with any of those.
