[Edited 1/3/07 8:33am] Yeah, i have to use my salary to something "Dear Ella" has to be the next album i get, i `ve finally gotten Patti Austin`s tribute album to Ella Fitzgerald (with a japanese bonustrack). I`m new to DeeDee Bridgewater, the only thing i heard by her before i got the "Just family/Bad for me" cd was her beautiful "If you believe" from "The wiz" I`m also curious about her self titled album from 1980. Have you heard it? Also, i know she recorded "Raindrops keeps falling on my head" for an album. Have you heard that song?

Actually haven’t heard as much of her music as I’d like but she’s always been on my radar because of The Wiz, Sophisticated Ladies, and her work with many jazz greats. To my musical detriment, I’m one of those people that like so many different artists and genres that I don’t get to explore half of what I’m interested in and purchase even less. If I bought what I really wanted, I’d be a homeless person pushing around a shopping cart filled with albums and CDs. I’d also never get a chance to read which I’m very big on so there are a lot of things I artists I haven’t allowed myself to fully get over the last decade or so. I know what you mean Thank god for youtube, that`s a great place to explore music... I enjoy reading too, but i don`t read as much as i`d like. And when i do, it`s often biographies, now i`m reading a book about Cole Porter.

So you know what I'm talking about. This is why working in retail was a dream. The pay sucked but I was surrounded by music not only that I loved but for a long time I was in a situation where I got to listen to jazz and vocalists all day. Man, that was heaven. To get away from the pop-rock-hip-hop was such a welcome relief to my ears and an education. I never would have been able to cover so much musical territory on my own if it wasn't for those (sucky) jobs. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

To discover new music is always fun, and if you can do that in your work, you`re lucky

I think i`ll stick with Fitzgerald`s songsbooks I bought a (midpriced) cd set, called "Young sassy) (i think that was the title), but i rarely listen to it. I like her vocal style though...

In the last 4-5 weeks, I've made some great hip hop purchases:
-More Fish by Ghostface Killah (ok, but by far the worst from the Ghostface cannon) -Blue Carpet Treatment- Snoop (really starting to grow on me, not a bad cd) -Hell Hath No Fury- Clipse (tremendous cd, but at my age, I can only take so much gun/drug talk) -Hip Hop Is Dead- Nas (best purchase of '06, by far) -True Magic- Mos Def (still checking it out) -Time Is Money- Styles P (haven't opened it yet, but I've been digging Styles for a minute) As I said in another post, I've recently given in and purchased Justin's FutureSex and I'm jammin' the hell out of it. I'm trying to do the sideways moonwalk and Omarion/You Got Served poplocking everytime I play that cd!
