The Isley Brothers ARE FANTASTIC!

wow. i am blown away. i did not really know them before, only recently i heard Caravan Of Love, that I liked a lot. It does remind me a bit of Cameo's Attack me with your love (soundwise). So I went out and bought 3+3 (reissue) and a comp. called "The Essential Isley Brothers".

they are absolutely fantastic (okay, could do without the post Caravan songs...)

So which albums have been reissued? Live It Up seems to have, and it is on my list, since the title track blows me away.

Please some help on that.

They are great. I don't know about reissued, remastered, or all that, but these are the albums I have on CD:

3 + 3 (T-Neck 1973)
Live It Up (T-Neck 1974)
The Heat Is On (T-Neck 1975)
Harvest For The World (T-Neck 1976)
Go For Your Guns (T-Neck 1977)
Winner Takes All (T-Neck 1979)
Between The Sheets (T-Neck 1983)

I have these two on vinyl:

Go All The Way (T-Neck 1980)
Grand Slam (T-Neck 1981)

I have this one on cassette and burned it onto CD. I've been looking for it on CD but haven't seen it in any of the stores:

Showdown (T-Neck 1978)

And I have these two 45s:

Inside You (T-Neck 1981)
The Real Deal (T-Neck 1982)
Andy is a four letter word.

Late '60s - early '70s Isley Bros. also cannot be overlooked. Classics such as 'It's Your Thing', 'I Turned You On' and 'Keep On Doin', all originally on the Buddah label, are sometimes overlooked funk-rock anthems. If you like your Isleys funky, get a comp. or album with these on. You will not be disapointed. cool

Excellent choices. I'd add the last pre-3+3 albums as well: Givin' It Back and especially Brother, Brother, Brother.

For some reason, Showdown is still not available on CD! disbelief However, since you already have "Groove With You" on the Essential album, you can get 5 more Showdown tracks on the compilation Funky Family.

Oh, I will try it out next time... Baby Making without Baby making, I hope... wink

hm, just thought that the isleys are seldom mentioned in here. I have some of their late 60s stuff (and also Shout and Twist And Shout that I love, too)... I'm gonna get me most of their 70s output, and some classics before.
Thanks for your help!

Yeah, Harvest Of The World is recommendable too! I never heard of the Live It Up album though?

eek Buy it now! No, I really mean right now. It was remastered recently ('04), but it's still hard to find. It was the followup to 3+3. Here's the tracklist:

1. Live It Up
2. Brown Eyed Girl
3. Need a Little Taste of Love
4. Lover's Eve
5. Midnight Sky
6. Hello It's Me
7. Ain't I Been Good to You

It will be soon sometime this month, along with "Grand Slam"..

I'm not really a big fan of the group, but Ernie Isley is a pretty amazing guitar player I must say. I defiantely like their early material much better and some of their early '80s songs but it seems like albums that I have been trying to check out such as 'The Real Deal' and 'Go All The Way' seem to be out of print on cd.

Ronald Isley is one of the few great classic soul lead singers still around now. At least, when he's not behind bars. confused
