Man,The Police are one of my all-time favorites,I still listen to the box set frequently and watch the video dvd.I want all the other dvd's,as well. However,I just think too much time has passed. It doesn't make musical sense anymore. Now,unless they really do something fresh and don't think about charts(if they record). They could even just experiment live and record that. They are very gifted artists.I have my doubts about this.

If they reform and are anywhere near Atlanta, I'm there.

I enjoy(ed) the Police, Sting, and their strong jazz influence.

But, I agree, hopefully Sting will leave the lute zzz at home.

cool

folks celebrate the anniversary of films being released....politicos celebrate the anniversary of a bill or legislation passing...janet celebrated the anniversary of Control coming out by releasing an album in the same spirit of....oh wait, nevermind. pout

i don't think its weird.

i suppose. shrug

i guess i just equate a band celebrating its 30th anniversary with a couple celebrating their 30th anniversary. i mean, the police don't have a 30th anniversary since they broke up 20 years ago, lol.

It's the 30th anniversary of the release of Roxanne. They were together as a band prior to that song becoming what it was. More power to them. Sting, who had the best selling classical CD of 2006, toured the previous year with a 4 piece rock band, playing many songs he hasn't done in years and doing others without the jazz elements he's been into as a solo act, which no doubt made him miss the old days.

The Police were the biggest band of their day and would have only gotten bigger had they stayed together. They were U2 before U2.

A lot of people wish that Prince never picked up the freaking scissors for Kama Sutra. Musicians are allowed to experiment!

From Sting.com...

01.03.07 30th Anniversary of the First Police Single - Official News
As numerous rumors have started circulating regarding plans for a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the release of the first Police single, the following is an official statement released on behalf of the band by a spokesperson at Interscope Geffen A&M Records:

"As the 30th anniversary of the first Police single approaches, discussions have been underway as to how this will be commemorated. While we can confirm that there will indeed be something special done to mark the occasion, the depth of the band's involvement still remains undetermined."

For jazz, Classical.. musicians I think you're right but I'm not sure for a pop band who is supposed to play in big arena.

actually it might
Sting has been in regular talks with Andy Summers,
and in previous interviews has recognize his tremendous ego during the period of the breakup...
and has found common ground with summers and copeland...
they all dig Jazz,
so it might not be the old Police
it might be a new Jazzy Police...

The big thing that ended the police was that each of them knew what they wanted,
they all had tremendous egos...
But now in their age they see the "Joke" so to speak, in their rediculous behavior...

Sting in an interview said this "When i was younger i knew exactly what i wanted when it came to music, the sounds, the phrasings, i knew what it taked to make a hit record, Now i don't have that anymore, im less rigid, very open, and have no idea whats going on in popular music, but i know what i like, and thats what really counts. One day i will move away from the pop mainframe, and create music in my cottage that no one will ever hear, just something i play for me and the dog"

and he's really proved that through his approach to music, he doesn't care about it as much. and his ego has subsided...
must be all that swinging tantric sex has loosened him up

The Police To Reform
by Paul Cashmere - January 2 2007

The Police may get back together this year for a tour to mark their 30th Anniversary.

No official announcement has been made by The Mirror reports that a reunion is on the cards.
This will be the first Police tour since the band broke up in Melbourne, Australia in 1984.
The Police are Sting on bass and vocals, Andy Summers on guitar and Stewart Copeland on drums.
Since the break-up Sting has had a successful solo career.
Copeland is involved with movie soundtracks but was sidelined for a miss-matched tenure with The Doors at one stage.
Andy Summers has concentrated on his jazz recordings.
An official announcement is expected later this month after UK dates are locked in, possibly for May and June.

i don't understand these bands that have been broken up for years and then tour under the guise of an "anniversary." maybe i'm wrong but i thought you only celebrate anniversaries when you're still together. i mean, i don't know any divorced couples who still celebrate the anniversary of when they got married.

It's the "Let's Make A Fuckload of Money" anniversary.

lol I gladly give them my money, who else should I spend my money on these days???(talking about my music money!)
I read there is an Ear book of The Police, someone got that one?
There's also one from Stevie and a few others, are they worth the money?
